Uncharted 2 Confirmed, First Details Released

A sequel to Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3 action title Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has been confirmed by way of a video teasing an upcoming trailer.

GameInformer has also released some details of the sequel, officially titled Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Protagonist Nathan Drake will predictably return, facing a quest that revolves around 13th century explorer Marco Polo. The game will feature a new emphasis on story, as well as a "free climbing mechanic" and stealth gameplay.

Following the original's 2007 release, Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells told Three Speech that fans could "pretty much count on us doing one in the near future."

The trailer will debut on Spike TV's 2008 Video Game Awards ceremony on Sunday, December 14. The teaser is copied below.

A "new emphasis on story?" I thought the first one struck a great blend of gameplay/story. I don't see why they'd want to do anything different to that aspect of the game.

And, yay, "stealth gameplay." That's just what I want. If I were to highlight things I was doing in an Uncharted sequel, "stealth gameplay" wouldn't be high on that list. Or on the list at all.

The first one was incredible. This news also probably means the rumor were true on the previous story.

Loved the first one, looking very much forward to the second one! Hopefully they throw in some chinese desert and buddhist monasteries, and some of his seatravels through sumatra, india and so.

stealth might be cool if they get the mechanics right. not so sure about free climbing though, as it's hard to roll the puzzle aspect of prince of persia style jumping in free climbing imo. climbing stuff in Assassin's Creed was boring imo because of that

the first Uncharted was pretty fun. beautiful art direction as well. im more then likely rent the sequel. the first didnt have much replay value imo.
