New Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO Screenshots

A new batch of screenshots from BioWare's Star Wars MMO The Old Republic have arrived, showing off some new environments, characters, attacks, and beasts.

The studio has yet to say when the anticipated and story-driven PC MMO will launch, though BioWare is "definitely planning" for an an open beta to precede its retail debut.

A console release has not been addressed by the developer. When the oft-rumored MMO was confirmed, BioWare said that it was "only talking about PC" at the time.

I say carve out your own niche instead of trying to directly take on WoW. I'm sure there's good market for this if isn't skewed into being merely an opponent of the giant. Rather than smacking into that wall only to rebound, slowly build your base.

    Okay, enough with the metaphors.

If you call yourself a MMO that's the first comparison that is drawn up post-WoW. You're an MMO you get compared to WoW. It's just a testament to how many things they have done right with the genre and why they are the largest and most successful MMO ever.

They'll be compared, and probably compare to WoW. But that doesn't mean they should focus on playing catch up with Blizzard, focusing on trying to yank users from WoW as a goal in itself rather than having their game build a userbase by its own right. I think the former is the mistake that has been done a few times.
