I took Blu-Ray and HD-DVD seriously for a while, but between Apple TV and the 360 and whatever comes down the pipe in the next year or two, I'm pretty sure I'm never going to bother buying a new physical-media-based movie player.

I haven't pressed the power button since I finished Bad Company months ago. The PS3 has been dominating my life (and I'm not complaining but I hate having the 360 just sit there doing nothing.... it seems like a waste).

Handbrake has had some pretty major changes in the latest release.
It will accept input from any video source, not just DVDs
New x264 encoding with better quality
Persistent queues
Looks like some pretty good stuff. I haven't tried it yet, but if it works well, it'll take over all the encoding/transcoding stuff I need to do, that's for sure.

I've had a public server running since Saturday morning and the most players I've had is 4 or 5 Shackers. What does it take? I've got a voting mod installed, an ok map rotation, good latency and a website set up. Just no players. Yet there are servers out there that seem inferior to mine that are filled up. What draws a person to a server? Other players? It's such a catch 22.

Universal input
HandBrake is no longer limited to DVDs: it will now accept practically any type of video as a source. This massive enhancement was achieved by tapping into the power of libavcodec and libavformat from the FFmpeg project.
Wicked.

- 2 to 3 years until SSD drives are standard on all laptop/portable machines
- 4 to 5 years until optical drive phaseout really begins
- 5 years until mass storage SSD is standard in desktops
- 7 to 10 years until we see an architecture shift resulting in RAM and HDDs ceasing to be separate entities and instead becoming a single item
And, along the way in a separate simultaneous transition, we see the graphics card slowly go the way of the dodo and instead change into just another set of processors that just so happen to be used for graphics when needed.
End result? 10 years max until your computer is just a cluster of processors, a single data storage unit, a little cache sprinkled about, and some inputs and outputs. Beyond 10 years its just too hard to predict where computers will go as interfaces, display technology, and advances in alternative architecture designs like optical and biological computers will likely decide the direction of future designs.

I'm looking to pick up a movie for the family this weekend. Something we can all watch and enjoy. I have an almost 4 year old nephew and the rest of us are adults.
A lot of people were saying that Enchanted was good. What is the Shackpinion on Stardust? It looked good but I never got a chance to see it. Do you guys have any other recommendations?
I been rolling with a good character, karma wise. I just hit level 20. If I start going crazy stealing stuff and killing good people will I eventually unlock the achievements for level 20 with neutral and bad karma?
I am probably going to do it either way, because it will be fun to go crazy. Just curious.

Despite steam being awful, we managed to have a good time.
It definitely needs a defend the house against the endless zombies mode. I miss this from AVP.
In fact, it would be good if you had to defend a town hall in the middle of a town. But the supplies were in buildings around town so you had to venture out between attacks to get them.
It needs a bigger variety of weapons. I would love a flame thrower. But if they were going to put something like that in, to balance it i guess you shouldn't be able to restock ammo.
Then i got home and my wife had locked me out of the house because "you've chosen gaming over us". Sigh. Time of the month ftl.
So being stuck outside for an hour at 0 degrees wasn't fun. She definitely needs to change the contraceptive pill she is on. Something from the none psycho brand would be nice.

My eyes are twitching and blood shot, but I think I finally have this thing ready to test.
Game: http://www.holdemladder.com (it redirect while I futz with my hosting provider)
API Site: http://www.touchleague.com
Blog with more detailed instructions: http://www.yourtownfootball.com/development_blog/default.html
Right now there is just a ladder that you move up and down as you win/lose, but I'll be porting over most of my competition code from yourtownfootball.com.
I'd love some help testing it out. You can has as many games going at one time as you would like.
Requirments: iPhone/iPod Touch or safari; Android browser seems to work ok as well but the diamonds are squares.
