Dead Space Demo Coming Tomorrow

21
A free downloadable demo of EA Redwood Shores' Dead Space will tomorrow hit the PlayStation 3's online PlayStation Store and the Xbox 360's online Xbox Live Marketplace, publisher Electronic Arts has announced.

"Before you carve your turkey this Thanksgiving practice on some Necromorphs with the Dead Space Dismemberment Demo," noted EA. The creepy-crawly sci-fi action game was released on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in mid-October.

Alongside its November 25 launch in North America, the demo will hit the European Xbox Live Maketplace on the same day, followed by a European PlayStation Store release on Thursday, November 27.

A demo of the PC version was not mentioned in today's announcement.

of all platforms, they need to release one on PC the most so that people can see if the controls really are as bad as people say.

i don't know what the problem with the controls is? i've had no problem at all and found it very standard. i'm assuming most people are complaining that the mouse lags (as stated above, this is fixed by forcing vsync off under your graphic card control panel).

-wasd, right click aim, left click shoot, space stomp, e use etc. not sure what the problem is.

I can see wanting a demo for that. Personally, I think the controls are great. I get very frustrated with games that punish players through the controls, but didn't feel that way about Dead Space. However, I've heard people disliking them, so I guess its a subjective thing.

It does not feel like other third person shooters. Not even remotely like Gears of War nor Max Payne. I think if people went in wanting one of those styles, they would come away disliking it.

They really aren't bad-I've completed the game on the PC on Hard and am going to replay it soon on Impossible, the whole controls fiasco happened because of a glitch and a rather stupid, noisy blogger.

The PC controls definitely feel like they have been mapped over console controls. Especially in some of the in-game menus where you can't use the mouse. You have to use the movement keys to cycle through the list, which just feels awkward when you already have a mouse in your had.

With vsync on, the mouse lag is unplayable. With it off its not perfect (still kinda sluggish), but its definitely playable. I seemed to be lucky enough to not experience any tearing either, but that is machine dependent.

The field of view also seems rather narrow, which kind of adds to the panic sometimes (like when you hear a monster and are desperately trying to get it in view), but perhaps this is because I was playing on a 4:3 monitor.

I have only played a couple of hours so far, but so far the game doesn't do a whole lot for me. Its scary and has great atmosphere, but gameplay-wise its average (tho the monsters blow apart rather nicely).

To me, its like Doom3, with less flashlight, and more awkward controls. But as I said, I'm not that far into the game.

can you use a 360 controller if you have one? Any better?

Regarding the lack of a pc demo, it's a shame that the one platform on which piracy is trivial is the one which has no demo. Did EA just assume people would pirate the game as a demo and then pay for it afterwards if they like it? I hope they will release a demo sometime since I am interested in the game, but it's not a game I will buy just because I'm interested.
