New Call of Duty Doubles CoD4's First Week Sales

24
Treyarch's wartime shooter Call of Duty: World at War has more than doubled the week-one UK sales of Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4, GamesIndustry reports.

World at War arrived at retailers last week, hitting two more platforms--PS2 and Wii--than Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which was released on PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS. The PS2 edition of CoD:WaW was developed by Rebellion, while n-Space handled the DS editions of both CoD4 and CoD:WaW.

As GamesIndustry and UK sales-tracking firm GfK Chart-Track did not provide a specific per-console breakdown of World at War's sales figures, the effect those additional platforms had on its retail performance is not yet known.

After Infinity Ward created the first two Call of Duty entries, Treyarch was brought on to co-develop the series as part of publisher Activision's "leapfrog strategy" for annual releases. Treyarch handled Call of Duty 3 while IW prepped CoD4, with the series creator presently working on Call of Duty 6 for a 2009 release.

I hope you're trolling. If not, your gamer license ought to be revoked.

        No I'm not trolling.
I honestly am bored with playing the exact same game over and over, I'd like to see the obviously competent dev studio tackle a new IP.

Can you honestly say you played world at war and didn't think to yourself, wait I've done this all before?

I'm clearly in the minority, after all this game doubled cod5's first week sales... that's amazing to me.. but whatever..

Erm your post is misleading then I think, I took it to say that you were implying that Infinity Ward's new COD game would be a copy of the others.

Perhaps you meant "I desperate need to play the same game for the 5th time" ?

For what it's worth I'm with you in that CoD 5 is extremely lackluster.

IW didn't make COD: WaW. I'm waiting for COD 6 made by IW, because it should actually be good.

I don't mind the idea of more CODs, but I kind of wonder if people at IW want to go try something new by now or not.
