Weekend Post!

by Maarten Goldstein, Nov 14, 2008 11:53pm PST

Picked up Mirror's Edge on Thursday, a game I was really looking forward to since the release of the demo a few weeks ago. Demo...tons of fun. Full game...not so much.

The concept for the game is fantastic, and I really dig the visual style, but as you go along it becomes more and more frustrating, with its trial-and-error gameplay. The game also doesn't evolve like most games do either - by about chapter 4, you will have seen everything the game has to offer variation wise. I can overlook a game being short, but Mirror's Edge just suffers from not being much fun for large portions of the game. For me, the whole parkour thing outside on rooftops is the best part. It is decidedly less fun to go inside buildings, and even less fun when there are people shooting at you and you have to deal with them; you can avoid this in earlier parts of the game, but it becomes near impossible later on. So yeah, real disappointing.
