Rare Fixing Unclear SDTV Text in Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts Despite Being 'Too Expensive'
by Chris Faylor, Nov 10, 2008 8:11am PSTFlip-flopping from its previous stance, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (360) developer Rare has now pledged to fix the game's small text, which is unreadable on a standard-definition TV set and only legible on a high-definition display.
"We would like to assure you that contrary to earlier reports, we are aware of the issue and currently working on a title update to be released within the next 30 days that will fix it for those with Standard Definition TVs," reads an update from Rare community manager George Kelion on the game's official Banjo Blog.
A few days ago, the company claimed the issue was "too expensive [to fix] in terms of time, resources and money," with Kelion begging "please don't kill me....when all's said and done, we're only human."
Though the vehicle-customizing action-adventure game doesn't head off to stores until tomorrow, November 11, the unclear teeny-tiny text was noticed by SDTV-using gamers following the downloadable demo that hit in late October.

First, it has to be resized. This often entails resizing of text boxes as well.
Then, it has to be tested. I don't know how much text this game will have, but every single word has to be looked at. I tested a game on the Wii where the text spilled out of the screen when in 4:3, but was fine in 16:9. We had to watch all the text in the game in all the 6 or 7 languages.
This problem should have been fixed in beta though. I don;t know how MS does testing, but when I tested at NOA, we had 4:3 and 16:9 TVs so that we could catch errors that might not otherwise be seen.

I also laughed when the disclaimer screen was all in Comic Sans.
