First Post!
by Maarten Goldstein, Nov 10, 2008 4:32am PSTAhh, fresh start to the week.
Got some good gaming in this weekend, as I completed the main quest in Fallout 3 and made it to about chapter 4 in Dead Space. As for Fallout 3, for the most part I really enjoyed getting through it, but the look of the wasteland did very little for me. I much more enjoyed the environments in Oblivion. Still, I spent a good amount of hours on the game and see myself going back to finishing the plethora of side-quests.
Dead Space so far is pretty good. Predictable in its scares, but production is absolutely top-notch... I find the action quite satisfying too. Plus I find myself actually kind of looking forward to how the story progresses.

I listened to Episode 5 of Idle Thumbs today on the train home. How do I start wearing peacock feathers?
Also....I now truly understand why the Wal-Mart guy was bitching about more electronic instruments.

This is a tad insane.
Last...I mean really...what is this ummmmmmmm COMPUTER entertainment system really good for. I mean really? Really Sony...REALLY.
What do I do with it now?

In the next couple days we hope to start pushing out 0.4.154.16 to the Dev channel. http://dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel/
Among many other changes, this build contains:
* New SafeBrowsing implementation, off by default, enable with the --new-safe-browsing command line switch. This is designed to do way less disk access, which should help those of you for whom the browser has been thrashing the disk hard.
* New V8 and new Gears, I dunno what the changes are.
* Spellchecker can now be disabled entirely.
* You can now change the spellchecking language without restarting.
* Fonts and Languages dialog only warns about restarting the browser once (not on every change).
* Added Reload to the context menu.
* Clear Browsing Data... dialog selections are remembered for the next time you open the dialog.
* Consolidated all privacy-related features in options into a "Privacy" section in the third Options tab.
* Bookmarks manager (ctrl-shift-b, or from the menus). Edit, reorganize, search, import, and export. I think.
* Modified popup blocker UI. Now there's a small toast in the lower-right corner that shows the number of blocked popups and can be clicked to get at them.
* Fixes for IME issues, including with plugins.
* Re-implemented iframe shim for plugins (included in a previous dev release and backed out due to perf issues). Menus on YouTube won't get covered by the video.
* Plugin hang/responsiveness issues, e.g. with PDFs and proxies.
* Content without a title will no longer say "Loading..." or "Untitled". e.g. images don't have retarded tab titles now.
We think our recent release of 0.3.159.9 to the Dev and Beta channels addressed many of the most serious problems people were having that were causing them to abandon the browser entirely. This is more fruit of our push recently to eliminate a lot of high-priority usability and attrition issues.
In the meantime, we continue to try and stay on top of the WebKit trunk on our trunk. We're doing merges roughly once a week and slowly working towards having our port buildable directly from WebKit ToT.
The Mac and Linux teams are also making progress. One of the Linux devs told me today that by the end of the week he wants to use the Chromium test shell (the not-yet-a-browser framework we use for bringing up the rendering engine) as his primary browser on Linux. I think the Linux guys are thinking about font rendering issues and both teams are looking at how to recreate our very Windows-specific sandboxing implementation on other OSes.

So... cold...
Anyway, we're about to plug in our new space heater. Let's all cross our fingers that I don't die in a horrible and awesome fire. :-D

I'm gonna take it in to the store tomorrow to see what they say, its under apple care, whats the chance of them just handing me a brand new MBP ? :)
With the expansion Wrath of the Lich King just around the corner this week, I wanted to take a moment to extoll why I still love this game so much. Consider it a sappy love letter to a game that has dominated this hobby of mine for 4 years, and blatant Blizzard fanboyism. In reply.

“I think DLC will be increasing in scope just because in the US we really need to make strides against the second-hand market,” he said.
“The secondary market is a huge issue in the United States. Our primary retailer makes the majority of its money off of secondary sales, and so you’re starting to see games taking proactive steps toward that by… if you buy the retail version you get the unlock code,” he said.
"I’ve talked to some developers who are saying ‘If you want to fight the final boss you go online and pay USD 20, but if you bought the retail version you got it for free’. We don’t make any money when someone rents it, and we don’t make any money when someone buys it used - way more than twice as many people played Gears than bought it."

WE2008 is now open for registrations. Once you've logged into the site, you have to go to the WE2008 page and register there to participate. If the site says you're registered, use the password retrieval thingie and you'll get shackmessaged with login info.
Minimum requirement is 100 posts. People who didn't send last year get matched with people who didn't send last year. Others will get matched based on their total post count when I close registrations on 23rd November.
The Post Count update is a bit wonky.. sometimes shack comment search returns an incomplete page so I can't parse out the post count properly. So if it doesn't work for you the first time, try again. Second try seems to be working fine every time.

1.
What effect does doing critical damage on an enemy have? Because I don't see anything except a reduction in hit points. If I critically damage a leg or an arm, they seem to still be able to attack me with no problem and do what appears to be the same damage. If the enemy's arm is at zero health, how is he still using a two-handed weapon?
2.
I'm currently at level 6. Do the enemies get more varied? Right now, it's still all super mutants, scorpions, mole rats, giant flies, roaches, dogs and raiders with the occasional centaur. Kind of ho-hum.
3. What is your strategy for keeping track of unpicked locks for which you don't have the required skill level? I've had to leave boxes, etc., untouched in all sorts of different areas because I can't open them and I don't really relish the idea of having to go back to all these places trying to hunt down the one or two boxes I couldn't open four levels ago in the game. Do you just forget about them, never to return?

I've found a handful of women that seem to be pretty cool, even a "100% match" according to the website (which doesn't really mean much), which I've e-mailed with no response so far.
There are a lot of 19-21 year olds that have kid(s), never married or divorced, or are smokers. I wish I was back in Atlanta, the singles community there is huge and rated very high.

For years I never listened to hip hop until is slowly grew on me and became one of my favorite types of music. I can understand perfectly not liking it, but what grinds my gears is when people start trying to deconstruct it as an art form. It's not enough to simply dislike it because of your subjective taste, you have to start saying that it's not music. These same people will go through all sorts of excuses as to why hip hop is some sort of low and deranged practice unworthy of its popularity. I have to play the race card, because otherwise it doesn't make sense to me. Why would people so irrationally hate a certain type of music, then jump through mental hoops to definitively prove themselves right? I think it's racism, and for the record I am white as a sheet and live in a very white area so I run into this a lot.

a couple weeks ago, on a sunday morning, i get a call at 9 am from my boss telling me he's going out of town in 4 hours and he needs a replacement power brick for his laptop, the one he has is inexplicably broken. he wanted me to come in and fix it for him. took me like 20 minutes on the phone to explain that i would need to order one and it wouldn't arrive within 4 hours, even if i got dressed and went in immediately.
fast forward today. he finally brings me the power brick in question (apparently it wasn't that urgent after all). the cable from the brick to the laptop is chewed up by some small animal. he wants me to find a replacement. $120 from HP's site. so he goes into wtf-mode saying it shouldn't be that expensive and for a $120 piece, it should have lasted much longer than a year and change.
so i point to the chew marks and ask "you don't think that has anything to do with it?"
nope, he points to a section of the cable about an inch up from the chewed part and said "i had to bend it there to get it to work, the chewed part can't be the problem"
i guess i'm just an idiot then.

I think the time period may have been the civil war, but a lot of it focused on a woman/some women, trying to maintain the farm during the war. I think I remember a scene where an old guy was beaten or tied to a fence maybe? And toward the end it's winter, and they are up in some mountains, they're hiding from some people. There's a sex scene in some abandoned cabin I think, and the guy who comes back from the war gets shot in the back? Ring a bell at all?

I had a guy message me and asked if I would go down to $500 for the lot. I replied saying that it that was a bit lower than I wanted to go considering everything I had there. I did say however that I would be willing to go down to $675. Which i thought was more than reasonable. Well the guy comes back complaining that I am asking way too much yadda yadda yadda. This was the second person to offer me $500 for the lot.
Considering what is there am I asking too much?

post your ideas to improve the game. ill start:
I'd like to see a non-stackable movement speed buff (no more than 10-20%) granted to players while traveling on major roads. it would alleviate some of the tedium of leveling and makes travel through zones and leveling "easier" without making the game easier.
I'd also like to see the auction houses of the battlegroups connected. this would expand the markets to all servers on a given battle group, thereby reducing or eliminating "lopsidedness" in supply/demand and market cornering and price gouging. while this might be logistically difficult and suffer from lag issues, i still think the benefits outweigh the problems.
what ideas do you have?
