You would see a lot of 1s, 2s, 3-6s/10s on my site. I can't think of many games I would give a 10 to. (Yes I know shackers don't like numbers) I think too many review sites stay in the 7-10 range, its fucking ridiculous not every game that comes out is 7 8 9 or 10.

I played Fallout 3 all week, and was totally infatuated with the game until the last day I played it.
Now, I realize that the game ultimately does a great disservice to itself. In retrospective, almost every decision and mission is a mere shadow of what it could have been.
Major spoilers below, so don't read if you haven't finished the game.
First, the ending sucks. Screw you, Bethesda, if I invest 50+ hours into a game I want the ending to pay off, big time. The mission preceding the end of the game feels like an (awesome) mid-game sequence, on the way to reveal something a lot bigger -- like an all-out, wasteland-wide war with the Enclave, that would force the Brotherhood of Steel Outcasts re-join with the main faction and unite the wastelanders against a single foe. There are so many good plots that didn't seem to make a difference in the end: the Giant Tree, the Android Underground Railroad, the eradication of Slavers.
The closest this game approaches something grand: the street fight on the way to GNR, and Liberty Prime.
Second, shallow storytelling. Even the main story line about dad is unconvincing. Why would he leave without telling me? Why now? Why not ask for BoS protection before going to the water purification plant? It never did become clear why the Enclave colonel wanted to control the purification device, or why he disagreed with "the President." Vast majority of the quests matter past their completion: once you've completed something involving certain people, that's it. Done. No relationship building (actually, Bittercup in Big Town starts something, but nothing ever happens), no visible progress in the cities when you come back, no new conversation trees, nothing in the environment is affected by anything you do while you're playing. The story threads don't intertwine as well: there are plenty of hints of great conspiracies, but no ways to unravel them.
The closest this game comes to good storytelling: the Big Town after-quest where you teach the scared residents to shoot, and they repel waves of supermutants with you. But even after that's over, people don't exhibit greater confidence and don't tell you how they defended themselves many times when you visit them again.
Third, no moral ambiguity or deeper philosophy. Fawkes never approached me about the virus and argued that all super mutants could be made intelligent, and BoS guys didn't even blink when I walked into their backyard with a giant green dude. "The President" never tried to convince me why the virus was a good idea. A random old man never pointed out to me that, by shooting Raiders, I became like a Raider myself, except the kind that only kills Raiders, but often driven by an identical motivation (loot).
The closest this game comes to a moral ambiguity challenge: the Big Tree. But it freaking makes no difference what you choose!
So the game starts out feeling like there is this open-ended world, but boy, after a while you realize the world is static and the quests are linear as hell, rarely involve more than two cities, and very short. And then the game screws you out of a satisfying conclusion in the end.
The best thing about the game: the world is implemented well, and the VATS combat is delicious. I also loved the homebrew weapons, in particular the Rock-It Launcher and Shishkebab.
So yeah, I hope that Mass Effect 2 and Deus Ex 3 can learn a few good things from this game, but really bulk up in the story telling department.

So, my girlfriend set up the router for our house, but she has since forgot the WEP key that she used. We now have a guest who wants to connect to your internets.
Is there any way to recover the WEP key?
We're using an SMC Barricade, Model: SMCWBR14-G2
Thanks!

My only concern is that bots are not in DM as they pretty much make the hunter or smoker useless since they just snipe them anytime they make their move.
Human players will be able to defend themselves but theres really no disorientation with AI players, they just run straight at you immediately.
Also, does anyone know if the DM maps are different than the SP maps?

took {yReptileIDC}y, my flatmate and myself quite a few goes but we managed it with just the three. Well basically it was just Reptile and myself cos my flatmate got his head removed by Locust swarming in from everywhere. Tense as shit, love it.

I think I'd probably pick Xenogears - pretty sure even in spite of Disc 2 it's my favorite RPG ever; I'd love to see a real Disc 2 instead of that chair shit

It's actually...awesome. Super lightweight, the new UAC prompt is still clean but provides a little more information.
And the biggest thing: White listing. I can tell it to never ask me about a certain program again. Fantastic, that's all I needed.

I finished playing Gears of War 2 coop marathon with my friend who just got back from Iraq. We did the same for the first Gears and I have to say Gears 2 > Gears 1. The game was great that you got to do a little bit of EVERYTHING.
We started around 3:30 PM yesterday and we beat it around 3:00 AM this morning. In Gears 1 we started around 8 PM and played straight until 5:00 AM. Gears 2 definitely felt a lot longer than the first. We did take 2 hours off after killing the big fish to watch an episode of Lost Season 4, first 15 minutes of BSG Season 4 on, and some Gametrailers Retrospectives on my 360 as well as have In-N-Out at like Midnight. I was hoping to play it all the way straight through but we actually needed a break from this game.
My friend hasn't played the game since the first and I don't remember the last Live gameI played so we were pretty green when it came to controls. But something about the controls this time around made it feel smoother. Also the variety of weapons is decent and we mixed and matched our set up to our liking and needs. My friend loved anything that explodes and he carried the grenade launcher above all but later he got really good with the sniper rifle and he started chainsawing a lot near the end of the game. I mainly held on to new Locust rifle and whatever else i felt like at the time. However we both agreed that the portable shield and the Locust burst pistol was the best combo. That pistol was way too good. The shield just made it even better.
The graphics in this game are amazing, we kept commenting on how well detailed the characters were and especially the Lancer Rifle. There was a lot of little things as well like how the characters were covered in blood, water detail, and the barrel of the Lancer glowed red hot after firing in full auto. The freaking Reaver level was bad ass and was like the Speeder Bike part from Return of the Jedi. Also, the game felt like you were in the open a lot more than the first. You were indoors here and there but fighting in the streets, forests, and even the caverns felt huge.
The story all I have to say compared to the first was just "bigger." They tried to explain more things and it felt like it was trying to be like Lost with connections and leaving some open questions. Also, there was something at the very end of the credits that allude to a sequel. The Dom storyline was pretty well executed I thought, like it wasn't overdone and kind of unexpected the way it was closed. The scene made me forget that it was a video game for a moment.
Overall, Gears 2 is bigger than Gear 1. Lots of boss fights and the game is not as repetitive as the first Gears as I was expecting it to be. I give Gears 2 great props and I haven't even touched multiplayer yet. I can't wait to get around to playing Horde with you bastards. Sweet!

What's the opinion on these? I want to pick one up for my gf but I need it to be relatively reliable as she'll murder me if she ends up losing data (mainly sentimental photos and stuff).
Also, there's a "V2" available - does anyone know what the difference is?

Do most languages seem to have more syllables than English does?
For example, I was just watching this video of a blond singing in Gaelic:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJyozfWJE7s
and it seemed to me that her language (and most others) seem to have tons of syllables.
Is that just an illusion due to lack of familiarity?
Or is english just weird and use fewer syllables that most languages?
Also, I think I am in love with this girl.
Of course, I have had 2 glasses of wine and I fall in love at the drop of a hat.

Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty interesting game--the creature designs are solid and the environments are quite fancy, the game itself is quite gorey and uses the ultraviolence as an enjoyable gameplay mechanic, and as an audio guy myself I have to say the sound in the game is AMAZING. Honestly some of the best pure design I've ever heard in a game. But I just can't do it. It's just too damn much for me.
You see, I'm what you folks may call a pussy. I don't enjoy being scared. At all. And I genuinely hate being startled for any reason whatsoever. Dead Space does a fantastic job of doing both to me. It's scary and shit frequently leaps out of impossible places to startle. I don't dig that. When faced with a situation where I dread going around the next corner, in many videogames I typically just... don't. I turn it off because I'm in too deep. At least in movies the character will face off the big ugly beastie without my having to prod.
I finished 4 Resident Evils, 2 Silent Hills, a Bioshock (but not a Systemshock... yeesh), most of Doom 3, and all of Eternal Darkness, but I just can't swing myself through this game on will alone. It's not any scarier or more intense than most parts of those games, but it just has a way of making me feel dreadfully uncomfortable.
I feel let down about this, really. It's a game I really want to enjoy because I like playing good games.
The upside is that at least I got it free as a gift, so I'm not losing out any cash for not playing it. But still, I wish had the testicular fortitude to really dig in to it.

Score: the score is 8/10
More importantly, it sounds like the criticisms of the game are such that they won't bother me too much. As long as I don't get frustrated by the cops or bad guys or whatever, I'm perfectly content (at least judging from the demo) retrying an area a few times.
