Morning Discussion

by Chris Faylor, Nov 06, 2008 7:01am PST

Fear not, for today is Thursday and there are things to celebrate.

For example, if you like Gears of War, the sequel gets released at midnight! And there's that Left 4 Dead demo coming today, that is, if you've already bought the game.

But above all else, tomorrow is Friday. Yay!

  • note: this is not me. it's not even me pretending it not to be me. this is seriously a story about a friend.

a friend drove through a big puddle (no choice, in a tunnel, couldn't back up, didn't see or know of the puddle before entering tunnel) and it got water in the engine. the insurance is on the cusp of deeming the car a total loss. the car is owned outright, and bought at a steal, so if its a total loss, buying the equivalent brand new will be about 10K over what the car now is worth. the mechanic who looked at the car says the only thing that's fucked is the engine -- everything else is still in perfect condition.

if my friend decides to retain the car even after the insurance deems it a total loss, and replace the engine with insurance money -- what happens to the car's future insurance? will the old insurance company drop the car and all the next companies rape the car because of this engine replacement?
