Morning Discussion: Obama Won, BTW
by Chris Faylor, Nov 05, 2008 7:11am PSTMy friends, welcome to the dawn of a new America--an America where Will.i.am can appear on CNN as a hologram. Seriously, holograms. The future is now.
While we were all waiting for the votes to come in, I passed the time by playing that new Spider-Man game, Web of Shadows. I have to say, I'm rather impressed. Shaba Games really nailed the controls, making it super easy to be swinging through the city and then start running up the side of a building and then attack a dude in mid-air.
That said, I think it could have used a few more months of polish. Playing on the Xbox 360, one of my mission objectives glitched out of existence. The music tends to skip while the open-world is loading from the disc, and I even encountered a hard lock-up. Some of the mission objectives can be rather generic, like kill X amount of this bad guy.
But that's okay, because I'm having a blast swinging through the open city, running up buildings, looking for those spider-shaped level-up orbs. It's like Crackdown, on crack. And if I happen to kill X amount of bad guys during that time, well, so be it.

Ok this is a long shot but all my sources are letting me down. iTunes doesn't have it, and all torrents I find are dead. Specifically I'm looking for the Big Brother Is Watching double disc dj mix.
Would anyone here happen to have it?

Holy fucking shit, when you type in a mathematical expression and press space bar, it automatically calculate it... i.e : i entered this 37 000$ x 2% x 12 x (19 000 / 20 004) and pressed space bar and it gave the correct result.. this taxation assignment is going to go fast lol

Level 20, lots of explorations and side-quests.
Spoilers ahead in my initial records, typed out over the music of the credits. You can probably read most of it and not have much spoiled. NO spoilers in the verdict but it's inflammatory so don't read it if you really like Fallout 3 and can't handle differing opinions. In reply.

Today's required reading is Chris Remo's review thread from 2006. http://www.shacknews.com/laryn.x?id=12791666
I have to credit Monkey Island 2 as my first gaming love, and the game that made me a gamer for life. Friends used to invite themselves round to my house, just so they could play it. Going to cub scouts each week was incredibly exciting, as it meant I could talk about the game to one of the leaders and he could give me a hint about whatever puzzle I was stuck on. It took 9-year-old me many, many months to get through that game. As a result, its beautiful artwork is indelibly etched in my memory. So too are all the puzzles, as I found out when I played it again after a 10 year gap.
And finally, a word on the box art. They don't make them like this any more:

In recent years I've played Grim Fandango and Full Throttle, two games I missed first time around. Full Throttle has aged very well, and still works nicely thanks to ScummVM. You can play through it in an afternoon, and I recommend that you do. Grim Fandango's 3D engine hasn't survived the ravages of time so well. IMO it controls awkwardly and is not at all pretty. Also, I was unable to finish the game due to a bug causing me to get stuck in the kitchen on my return to Rubacava (after I'd got past the CPU speed bug, no less). Thankfully, the writing is still great. Long live Tim Schafer.
Which LucasArts adventure game did you love the most? Or were you one of those dirty stinkin' Sierra Entertainment types?

As tempting as it would be to go with a reliable standby like Morgan Freeman, I think I'm gonna have to go with Nathan Explosion. Everything would be totally metal at that point.
