Just in time for Halloween, Valve has released the introduction for its cooperative zombie shooter Left 4 Dead.

The over four-minute, entirely in-engine movie was created by the same internal Valve team that produced the acclaimed Team Fortress 2 "Meet the" videos.

Not quite in time for Halloween, Left 4 Dead will hit Xbox 360 and PC on November 18. The demo will be released on November 11, or November 6 for pre-order customers.

the big thing im worried about this game is replay value

seems like it will get old pretty fast

that dead rising xbox360 game blew over pretty quickly

nothing like repeating yourself. just don't buy it if it doesn't interest you. no shortage of good games this year.

as far as I read they have tried to make sure that it wouldn't get repetitive. Can't remember the exact details though.

Awesome intro. Can't wait to try this.

I.E. The AI Director allocates resources (zombies etc) in a way that is reciprocal to how your team is playing at the moment.

There are a few things the game director does.

        * Monitors how well your team is doing. If they notice you are having a hard time, they back off. I think vice versa is true.

        * Generates a rhythm of zombie spawns. This rhythm is usually areas of sparseness with standard zombies wandering around you need to clear contrasted with tense moments fighting the zombie horde. The music changes and usually one of the AI lets you know what's coming.

        * Spawns special zombies. These are the really cool non-horde zombies that require special attention. Sometimes they come with a horde, sometimes you might find them lurking about.

        *Spawns in random ammo/item elements

All of these things do mix up the experience significantly because they can happen in different areas. Sometimes the horde spawns when you are in a tight area, like a hospital hallway. You might play the same level again and this hallway is now eerily quiet, you don't know what to expect., clearing each room as you go. Where you defend from will change based on this. Getting attacked in the open creates a whole new set of challenges.

This game has pretty much nothing in common with Dead Rising except zombies. There really are basically no similarities.

I love Valve games and have never been let down. But I am worried about this because I just picture wave after wave of Zombies coming after you as something that will get old quick. Is this game the same thing basically as the mode in Gears of War 2 where its just wave after wave of escalating enemies? I have no idea. I haven't paid any attention to this game I think because zombie games have always been a let down for me. But its Valve and I can't see myself being dissapointed. So on the fence about this game, when with every other Valve game I've bought it day 1. The good thing is everyone I know who has had a chance to play it early has fallen in love with it.

No, the crux of Left4Dead is the AI director. Instead of just throwing endless waves of increasingly difficult enemies, the director monitors each players experience and controls the zombies dynamically for a different each time. It's peaks and valleys, so you'll run into very small groups of relatively docile zombies as well as giant hordes of bloodthirsty ones. Mix in the Boss infected and you've got a recipe for quite an interesting experience each time.

Also, the MP mode will up the ante with player-controlled boss infected, which should make the survivor coop that much more challenging.

Also, knowing Valve, they'll keep crapping out free new levels every other month.

^^ Dead Rising = single player game. This is multi. HUGE difference. COD4, I still only played through the single player campaign only once. COD4 multi- I've been playing that a ton for a year now.

I agree Chris...nothing in common with Dead Rising except for Zombies (Even that is a stretch). Atleast LFD has fast moving zombies and the intensity is much higher...no Mall zombies here boys and girls. Dead Rising had its time and place (not a bad game)....(With coop and multi player for LFD)LFD is for the BIG BOYS and GIRLS now:) Looking forward to eating some brains:P

4 player zombi co-op if done well shouldn't get old too fast. Playing with new players should change the dynamic.

The PC version shouldn't get stale as long as the modders are hard at work.

l4d is a source engine game so that means people can start making maps right now if they were really ambitious (well.. just the basic geometry, they will most likely release the other tools soon after release)

VERSUS mode gives you massive replay value - lots of fun.

virtualsinner, L4D has absolutely no reply value, do not purchase. Stick with Dead Rising, its actually quite the same, so no big difference, you know? ^^
