Fallout 3 Discussion
by Chris Faylor, Oct 30, 2008 5:14am PDTBy popular demand, here's a dedicated chatty thread for you all to discuss your progress and experiences in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Bethsda's Fallout 3.
Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to give it a go yet, I've been traveling and bogged down with many other quality games, but I'm determined to give it a go as soon as I'm able, especially after reading Breckon's glowing review and hearing him talk about it.

I sped through it the first time around because I've found that's really the only way I can enjoy Bethesda's games, or maybe just open world games in general. I've found that in these games, there's a lot to do, but no real reason to do it except for the sake of total completion. I guess I like games better if they are more cinematic and/or story driven with lots of "wow!" moments such as Dead Space or Mass Effect, or multiplayer games such as CoD4 or even WoW. This open world sandbox style just isn't my cup of tea.

The other dudes are all generically named and don't offer any conversation other than "This doesn't concern you," so I just thank whatever gods exist in this barren world that they were only hostile to him, not me too, or else I would have been proper fucked.
I fast-travel to the junkyard, planning to make my way east to a big building with some heavily-armed raiders I'd seen earlier. As soon as the load screen gives way to the world, there are 3 Talon Company assassins waiting to gank me. The only problem is that the 3 power armor dudes seem to have come along with me, and they shred the assassins, even using what looks like squad tactics (flanking and grenades) to take out the last one who ran and hid.
I shrug it off, loot the assassins, go over to the structure, and start sneaking in. As I'm prowling around from the back, trying to be all stealthy and silent, one of the armored dudes just strolls along the perimeter fence and wastes the gate guard, plus two other raiders who came running. He keeps on walking, showing no interest in me or the rest of the raiders in the structure.
(This might be a plot spoiler, I haven't done much with the BoS --->) The other guys were from the Brotherhood Outcasts, so I can understand why they attacked Paladin Hoss, but why in the hell was he in Megaton in the first place? And why did the other guys follow me to the junkyard - or was it a different set that just (luckily for me) randomly spawned there?

and yes I was smart enough to make a save before I did that, just in case I want (or need) to change my mind.

Does PER effect your ranged accuracy? The tooltip says it effects lockpicking, explosives, compass enemy indicators, and um.. crap I forget but something else that isnt gun related.
I know in old fallout games PER impacted your ranged weapon accuracy. Does it still do this in FO 3?

What lock!?!? I didn't see any secret doors swing out or anything. What the fuck. There's nothing in the office that I want, since I already looted it the first time around. If the terminal had actually revealed anything it would be glaringly obvious. I thought. Guess not...

Everyone head (location spoiler) north to the Oasis before ending the game--Fallout fans will get a kick out of it and those that enver played the originals will still think it's awesome.

I'm not talking shooting the actual arm, but the weapon itself.
Last night I managed to shoot a grenade that a Super Mutant was about to throw at me. It blew the mutant sky high.
I also managed to shoot the missle launched out of the hands of another mutant (fell to the ground out of his reach). He was up high and had no way down, so I took him apart piece by piece.
