Fallout 3 Discussion

By Chris Faylor, Oct 30, 2008 5:14am PDT By popular demand, here's a dedicated chatty thread for you all to discuss your progress and experiences in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Bethsda's Fallout 3.

Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to give it a go yet, I've been traveling and bogged down with many other quality games, but I'm determined to give it a go as soon as I'm able, especially after reading Breckon's glowing review and hearing him talk about it.

  • I was 10 hrs in on my first play and I'd spent a good 8 hrs in Megaton looting everything that wasn't bolted down but still generally being a good karmic guy. I finally decided to leave M-town and explored all of nearby Springvale and I spotted the school there and could not resist destroying those bitch ass raiders. Well I'm one of those save first kind of guys and before I do anything that might have repercussions I save it. So I clear the majority of the school and was on the second floor enjoying every second of it all while saving before each VAT shot to make sure I hit everything in the face. Then low and behold I save the game before I take on this one raider and I missed the shot in VAT, so I think nothing of it and go to load my last save. IT DOESN'T FRICKING LOAD, MY SAVE MY BEAUTIFUL SAVE. The only other save I had was before exiting the Vault. My first 10 hrs down the drain :( This was on the 360 btw. I also noticed that while near the NW side (outside) Springvale school on 360 I used the 3rd person mode to see around the corner and peek at the raiders and the game started stuttering like I've never seen a 360 game do. I switched back to 1st person mode and retreated away from the school and it didn't stop stuttering until I was about 150 yards away. I am now about 18 hrs in on second playthrough and this game is so fucking awesome I can't wait for Fallout 4.

  • In the Greener Pastures Disposal Site, there's a small building. Now, I know the main reason to go in there: phat lewts in the form of a bobblehead. But there's also a computer terminal there that you can hack. I didn't do it the first time around because my skill was way too low. I came back and did it, but I can't figure out what it actually DID. The only option, once I had the password, was "Release Lock" or something to that effect.

What lock!?!? I didn't see any secret doors swing out or anything. What the fuck. There's nothing in the office that I want, since I already looted it the first time around. If the terminal had actually revealed anything it would be glaringly obvious. I thought. Guess not...
