Fallout 3 Now Available For Pre-Purchase on Steam

31
As Bethesda's Fallout 3 inches towards its PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release on October 28, Valve today announced that the anticipated post-apocalyptic RPG is now available for pre-purchase on its PC digital distribution platform Steam.

The Steam version of Fallout 3 carries the same $49.99 price as the retail edition. Unlike Valve's Left 4 Dead, which is due November 18 and sis currently discounted by 10%, pre-purchasing Fallout 3 brings no price breaks or bonus incentives.

"Fallout 3 is one of the most important PC launches of 2008," said Valve president Gabe Newell. "With Fallout 3 added to the line up of great titles coming to Steam, this year promises to be an even better holiday season for Steam gamers."

No preload, so I'm still going retail. I did cancel a Bioshock order last year when that came out on Steam with a preload, but huge downloads are becoming a bit of a pain on Steam and I wish they'd find a way to do preloads on everything.

I also don't understand why you have to play the SECOND it come out, if it takes you half a day ok...i've already waited a year

By the same token, I don't understand why some people HAVE to get every game on Steam. It's convenient for some games, less so for others.

It's not about "I must have this the second it comes out," so much as it is "How is a 4 hour install process superior to a 10 minute install process?"

how about this, you leave for work, begin the download, when you get off work, you don't have to stop anywhere or search around for it.. it's waiting there ready to be played. That my friend beats the 10 minute install.

Problem is it doesn't usually unlock before a person goes to work. ( Far Cry 2 unlocked at 1pm EST).

personally, i have a bad tendancy to misplace or destroy game disks and manuals (with their associated cd keys)... so the ability to re-download the game later when i want to play it again (or after i get a new pc, or whatever) makes it worthwhile to me... the auto-patching and all is just gravy.

I agree people are "if its not on steam I'm not getting it" about many games which I also think is silly. But I choose where I get it from based on on convent it is for me when I choose to buy it, nothing else. No preload, who cares....No steam...who cares. If I want the game I'll get it, if I'm at work I'll get it on the way home(or on steam if its cheaper, by remoting in and starting dl), if I'm at home I'll get it on steam.

I get games from Steam if they're there, and if they're not it depends. If I'm really excited about them then sure I'll buy them.

In Far Cry 2's case, I'm going to wait until that magical time when Ubisoft decides to open up to the rest of the world on Steam.

Agreed. I already have it coming free overnight delivery, I would have canceled and got it off of Steam if preloading was an option.
