Shaun White Snowboarding Gets 20% More Mountain in Target-only Special Edition
by Chris Faylor, Oct 08, 2008 2:00pm PDTTarget will carry an exclusive special edition of Shaun White Snowboarding that features exclusive in-game content, the retailer announced today.
Packing an extra mountain, more characters and the Target Chalet (pictured left), the Target-only Special Edition will sell for a $5 premium over the regular edition, and will be available in PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii form.
Those extras will not be released as downloadable content and can only be found in the Target-only release, a PR representative clarified to Shacknews.
Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Shaun White Snowboarding will hit PC, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP later this year. The regular edition, priced at $50 on Wii and $60 on PS3 and Xbox 360, includes 4 mountains to trick and race down.
"Shaun has been riding for Target for nearly seven years, so this exclusive version of Shaun White Snowboarding was a natural fit for our relationship with him," explained Target Lifestyle Marketing rep Troy Michels. "It's great to see the Target brand brought to life alongside Shaun in the game."

It doesn't help the game. It doesn't help the community. Both suffer.
Think of it like this: What if you're online and in a room of people you just met and are having a blast on the virtual slopes. How are you going to feel if half of them do or half of them don't have the exclusive Target terrain and they can't join you or you can't join them. Kind of going to ruin the game experience if you ask me.

It's not about TARGET folks, it's about standing up to this crap. 20% more terrain? an extra mountain? For fucks sake! What is gaming becoming?
I have been really looking forward to this game and will NOT buy it for the very principle of the matter.
Look at it this way:
TARGET is not easy to get to and I'm not going out of my way to get there. Gamestop is right down the street and I'm not going to buy it there because I know I'm going to miss out on content. So I'll buy Skate 2 instead.
IDIOTS. What the fuck are they thinking?

Just give me the fucking game! Quit making me have to jump through hoops to actually experience the complete product.

6 months later will there still be a special "target" edition?

Normally I don't like the "exclusive to Store X" stuff, but lately Target has been getting all the cool stuff. Like the IronMan DVD "facemask" box.
And I don't see how exclusive content is hurting the choice gamers have. Isn't shopping at a particular retailer a choice? I can choose to buy it at Target for $5 more OR I can choose to save $5 and buy it at any of a dozen other stores. An extra mountain is enticing me to buy it at Target. That's good marketing on their part. It's my CHOICE to buy the extra content or not. No one is forcing anyone to buy the version with the extra mountain. It's not like the regular version will be broken in any way.
