Increased Wii, DS Shipments May Not Fill Demand

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said there will be more DS and Wii units available at retail than last year, but he is unsure whether it will be enough to sate consumer demand.

"We are selling hardware at rates no system [seller] has ever experienced," Fils-Aime added.

Since its launch in November of 2006, the Wii has consistently sold out in American retailers, making the Wii a popular Christmas gift for the third year in a row, counting the upcoming holiday season.

The shortage has actually been good for me. I was hell bent on owning one of these when released, but now having had to wait this long I realized the PS3 and 360 fill all the gaming needs I have. The waggle games are fun at my friend's houses, but there are really no games that make the system a must-buy.

So, why does the US keep getting the shaft on Wii stock? There hasn't been a problem getting one in the UK for ages now as far as I'm aware.

So much for the Wii being a fad. This will make it three straight Christmas seasons demand will outstrip supply. And, even though there is a low attachment rate to the Wii, Nintendo makes money off of every Wii sale so to them it's still the best position to be in.
