Japan Psychiatric Association Wants Survival Horror DS Game Pulled

Japanese Association of Psychiatric Hospitals wants to see Dementium: The Ward, a Nintendo DS survival horror FPS set in a deranged hospital, taken off the shelves.

The association, which represents almost all Japanese psychiatric hospitals, claimed the game "fosters prejudice and discrimination" according to Japan's Sankei Shimbun newspaper. It added that "the game uses the tradition of psychiatry in name but uses imagery of attacking patients" and requested that the game's website be pulled along with the game.

Mike Wilson, CEO of publisher Gamecock, gave a response to MTV Multiplayer: "The co-publisher/distributor for the game in Japan, Interchannel, will deal with the situation appropriately. In the meantime, we're thrilled that this quick bout of paranoia has brought so much attention [for the game]."

Dementium: The Ward released on Halloween of last year and developer Renegade Kid is at work on Moon.

I was thinking the same thing. Mental illness means you are wired wrong. Defect. You should die, but luckily people tend to have more value for individual human life.
