Gears of War 2 Director on PC, PS3

83
Outspoken game designer Cliff Bleszinski, currently wrapping up Epic's Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 2, had a lot to say about the PC and PlayStation 3--namely, that they're unsuitable for the return of the gore-filled yet casual shooter.

"The person who is savvy enough to want to have a good PC, to upgrade their video card, is a person who is savvy enough to know BitTorrent, to know all the elements so they can pirate software. Therefore, high-end videogames are suffering very much on the PC," commented Bleszinski to TVG.

Once again shooting down chances of a PC version of Gears of War 2, he added, "Right now, it makes sense for us to focus on Xbox 360 for a number of reasons. Not least PCs with multiple configurations and piracy." After shooting those chances, he then curb-stomped them: "No," he said in response to a direct question about a PC port.

"Definitely not?" asked his interviewer. "No."

Meanwhile, on Videogaming247 the Gears director slammed the PlayStation 3--a part of it, anyway. "I hate the fucking controller," he said. "I'm sorry, I can't stand the PS3 controller. I love the Blu-ray player."

I prefer the thumb sticks to the 360 ones, but that's about it.

I hate the PS controllers too. I always have. The 360 controller is possibly the best gamepad to ship with a console ever...it just needs a better D-pad.

for anyone with hands larger than a 9-year-old girl, the 360 controllers are god-awful.

my hands are... like a gorilla... the left stick on the 360 controller hurts the hell out of my hand... and i can't hit straight down-up consistently in tiger woods without turning my hand sideways.

anyone know if there are 3rd-party 360 controllers that are slightly over-sized, and don't feel like they are made from baby-toy plastic?

Are you kidding? The PS3 controller is designed with the Japanese market in mind (smaller hands), while the 360 controller is designed for the average American.

Maybe you just have bad hands? I've never heard anyone with this complaint at the many lan parties I've been to. Practically everyone prefers the 360 controller.

the orientation of the stick, going across the controller, instead of straight up from your palm on the 360... is significantly more comfortable and controllable for large hands.

if the 360 left analog was where the d-pad is, it would be fine.

oh god, the triggers, THE TRIGGERS! :(

Personally, I think the DualShock triggers are far superior to the 360's. With the DualShock, there's a noticeable middle value there, but with the 360 you can't tell how far the trigger is being depressed by touch alone.

What? Your fingers never slip off or anything? Plus there is less travel. They're just horrible, cludgy additions just like the sticks on that thing.

I've had bunches of sticky tape on the triggers to stop my fingers slipping off since I got a PS3. They are incredibly stupidly designed.

Not really, no. I admit that I don't play a lot of shooters on the PS3 so I might not being using them the way everyone else is, but in the games I do have I've never had this issue. The controller is incredibly snug for me.

That's not to say I don't like the 360 controller - far from it - I think it also is a well designed piece of equipment. I just prefer the PS3's triggers.

i dislike how the 360 thumbsticks are staggered, left high, right low.

Am I the only one who holds PS1 and PS2 controllers with both index fingers and both middle fingers always on the shoulder buttons? I find it really, really tiring to do this with the PS3 controller, because L2 and R2 give too easily and so I'm basically holding the fingers in the air. All the people I personally know who like the PS3 controller hold it like an Xbox controller, with the middle fingers just used to grip the controller.

I hold mine with my middle fingers right under the L2/R2 buttons and I use my index fingers primarily for depressing the shoulder buttons. When I need to use both on one side, my middle fingers are right there.

With the Dualshock 3 having directional rumble, built in rechargeable battery (over usb), bluetooth, and sixaxis support, along with a really good D-pad, I say PS3 controller wins. I think the Xbox 360 controller feels cheaper, the analog sticks are good though, but they are good on both systems.

LOL! Yeah, good move for Sony to include rumble, after claiming it was so "last generation" then finally having people shit on them until they decided to put it back in. LOL!

Personally, I prefer the X360 controller... over my PS controller. But then again my hands are not the size of 5 year olds. 5 year olds without elephantitus... just to avoid confusion. ^_^
