Shack PSA: Max Payne Games $5 on Steam

27
Valve today announced that the entire Rockstar Games collection will be discounted by 50% for this weekend only.

That puts the cost of Max Payne and Max Payne 2--the acclaimed slow-motion shooters from developer Remedy Entertainment--at only $5 apiece, or $7.50 for the two-game bundle.

Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City can also be had for a Lincoln, while San Andreas is marked down to $10. The entire slate of Rockstar titles can be had for a mere $30.

Duplicating my latestchatty post here just for grins:

Coincidentally I've been playing Max Payne (Steam version) for the first time over the past few days.

If you're playing it on Vista you probably won't have sound in the cutscenes; to fix that grab http://shotgun1.shackspace.com/files/Max_Payne_Vista_Sound_Fix.zip and follow the directions within.

It's an awesome game; lays on the cheese quite thick but that's fine! It reminds me a lot of F.E.A.R. in terms of the combat, urban locations, and even some weird "visions", which is okee-dokee since I like F.E.A.R. a lot. The weapons in Max Payne aren't as diverse, but still fun to use. The whole slow-mo diving-while-shooting thing doesn't seem to get old for me.

Looks pretty good with all video settings maxed (haha) out, although it's amusing now to look at it and consider that this was the hottest of hot shit graphics back in the day.

The only thing that bugs me a little bit is the Plot Armor on some of the bad guys. Even your normal mob mook in this game is more accurate and more bullet-resistant than you are, which you get used to, but then you go up against some doughy little guy in shirtsleeves who absorbs a grenade or two and 3 clips from your dual SMGs just because the plot considers him to be a miniboss. Seems out of place, but oh well.

I imagine I'm getting close to the end now, will probably finish it off tonight. (Then on to MP2?)

Ah, but you got the +inf. :-)

Anyway "Darkje" is the man for putting that little fix together, and thanks to shotgun1 for hosting it. Worked like a charm.
