Far Cry 2 Multiplayer Modes Detailed, No Demo
by Blake Ellison, Sep 19, 2008 2:32pm PDTUbisoft Montreal's upcoming open-world shooter Far Cry 2 (PC, 360, PS3) will have a full slate of multiplayer options, but won't come with a demo before or after the game's release.
"Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond... and Uprising" will be available multiplayer modes, according to producer Louis-Pierre Pharand in an interview with EuroGamer. Capture the Diamond is capture-the-flag reworked to honor the game's African setting, whereas Uprising is "a modified version of a VIP [mode]."
To the chagrin of sample-loving gamers, Pharand added that the game will not have a demo. "No demos will be available," he asserted. "It became too complex to do a demo of an open-world game."
Far Cry 2 adds to an increasing trend of open-world games not coming with demos. The full game, boasting 50 square kilometers of world, will hit North America on October 21 and Europe on October 24.

It looks great - but the gameplay is what really interested me. Scouting matters, as you had to find and mark ammo crates and weapon emplacements before they would show up on your minimap. The fire propogation was the coolest thing - you could throw a few incendiary grenades, and depending on which way the wind was blowing the fire would spread through the prairie and into trees and buildings.
The map editor is also really cool - the guy sat down using the editor that will be included and made a playable map in about 5 minutes. You just use brushes and palettes and the system randomly put in trees and things.
So, donno if it's going to top my list of games this full season , but that demo actually moved it from "don't care at all" territory to "seriously considering".
