Resident Evil 5 Maker Capcom: No More Platform Exclusives

16
Resident Evil and Street Fighter developer Capcom has sworn off the practice of making "next-generation" games exclusive to one home console like the PS3 or Xbox 360.

"All major titles launched during the next fiscal year or thereafter will be developed as multi-platform games," reads Capcom's shareholder report for its fiscal year 2008, which ended on March 31 of this year.

Henceforth, Capcom will develop many of its games using its internal MT Framework technology, "an integrated development environment built to provide common development tools for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC platforms."

As a result, the company "will aim to increase revenue and dramatically increase the number of users by launching, for example, Resident Evil 5 ... Street Fighter IV ... and Bionic Commando [on multiple platforms]."

Capcom's strategy appears to already be in action. Aside from its work on MT Framework platforms, the zombie-smacking Xbox 360 action title Dead Rising is already getting some multi-console love, and several games including Street Fighter IV may be Wii-bound.

It'll probably be like Lost Planet and DMC4 and hit a few months later.

Which, I am not sure why but the conversions are always terrible...

I played RE:4 on the PC and it was a joke without all of the fan fixes. Bionic Commando Rearmed PC on the other hand is more-or-less identical to the XBox 360 version (minus xbox live achievements of course). Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come. I really like Capcom's games, but Console gaming doesn't really fit into my lifestyle at the moment. Therefore, I am very happy about this :)

DMC4 was pretty good on PC. But it lacked the options that PC games should have.

I thought it was brilliant. It ran perfectly, had no bugs, and wasn't watered down. I don't see what was wrong with it.

DMC4's port ran quite well, however there were some improvements to be made. My biggest qualm with it was how I could not change my gamepad configuration in-game; for some reason, I had to use the launcher for that.
Getting nitpicky here, but it also suffered from worse-than-average tearing with no v-sync on, but oh well.

Lets hope so. I hope a less sloppy port than 4 was though.

Yes, please. Considering the quality of recent PC efforts by Capcom, that'd be an instant buy for me.

I'd love playing co-op with my girlfriend or a friend on the TV - I even have two pads, so I'm all set up! :-)

Capcom confirmed a while ago, as reported by ShackNews, that RE:5 and SF4 were both coming for the PC. Did this change?
