GameStop: No End in Sight to Wii Shortages

Video game mega-retailer GameStop predicts a third consecutive sold-out holiday season for Nintendo's Wii, despite recent bumps in production.

"I know they're making more, but we're still short like everybody else. I think we'll have a continued shortage this Christmas," CEO Dan DeMatteo told GameDaily.

He added, "I don't see a near-term end in sight for Wii shortages, not unless they really ramp up supply. I think they've ramped it up 20 percent or so, but ... it's still evaporating."

I hate the Nintendo Revolution. (I can not spell/say *ii since its such a stupid name) My wife wanted it so I got it for her. Figured, cool I will complete my collection of current gen consoles. I got Metriod, Galaxy, and Zelda. Besides those game, there is nothing else to play and I would never buy a multi playform game on Nintendo as nobody in their right mind would if given the option to buy for PS3 or 360. I download VC games every now and then as thats the only thing that intrest me now. Kinda sad that the only thing I use Nintendo for is VC games. Nintendo is no longer a brand I can relate to. Ohh an by the way, that dog crap game also makes me want to kill myself....

i eeded to buy a the grand prise Wii for the kids' school fund raiser. i was a bit worried I couldn't find one. I walked into my local Toya R Us on a Thursday night at 8:15. They had over 30 of them. This weekend I checked my local Target and Best Buys and they both had plenty of Wiis on display. The only place that didn't have Wiis in stock were Gamestop. Hmmmmm

This is a load of shit. Gamestop is always short on everything. They will always be short on everything. It is the foundation of their business model. They want to be short on all new product. This allows them to push used product onto you. The profit they create from used markup pricing is vast.

I'll admit a carry a torch for the Wii, since we use it pretty extensively at parties, but that dog bark 'music' thing may be the most retarded idea in the history of video games. You probably have to be poppin' shrooms to play that one. Lordy, but the Japs sure can come up with some Weird Shit when they set their minds to it.

I've still never seen a single Wii sitting on a shelf, however I did get lucky and mange to snag one for a friend from Gamestop that they had in the back before someone else claimed it. It seems incredible to me. Has there ever been another consumer product that was unavailable at retail three years after it was introduced? Usually those big demand Christmas items like the Tickle-Me-Elmo are everywhere by the middle of the next year.
