Buffy MMO Announced, Firefly MMO Delayed

Virtual world creator The Multiverse Network has announced plans to create a massively multiplayer online PC game inspired by the Joss Whedon-created, Sarah Michelle Gellar-starring television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Somehow playable in both a 2D Flash and 3D interactive environment, the game will be set after the conclusion of the television series, which saw the mystical and badass-inducing Slayer power spread to countless women across the globe.

That setting is "the perfect launching point for an MMOG where everyone will feel like they're an important character in the ongoing story," Multiverse co-founder Corey Bridges explained via GDN. No release date was specified, but the effort will hit beta this year.

However, as all loyal Whedon fans are surely aware, there can be no good without sacrifice. In this instance, GDN reports that the focus on the Buffy MMO comes at the cost of "delayed" development on Multiverse's other Whedon project, which is set in the world of the sci-fi western Firefly.
