Far Cry 2 Trailer Discusses 'Immersion'

I really really dig this. Half Life really pioneered the immersive aspect by not using cut scenes and keeping you in the first person view the whole time. And I really like the healing too. In some of the other videos I've seen the guy pulling a huge piece of wood out of his thigh, wrapping his arm in gauss, and in the earliest videos, he used a pair of needle nose pliers to pluck bullets out of himself.

I do find myself hoping there's some kind of explanation as to why this guy can pop his arm back into socket and keep going like a badass, no matter how feeble it is, like just mentioning that he has an incredible pain tolerance or something.

I'm not a big fan of weapon degradation in games honestly, but they probably put it in there to force you to use different weapons throughout the game. I find quite frequently in a game I discover an early favorite and don't really use the other weapons as much - unless I play through the game multiple time or there's a robust multiplayer where you get to know the quirks of the guns really well.

And I'm not a mechanic, but I'm hoping there's more than one animation for fixing the car. I know this isn't "Engine Repair Simulator 2008" but turning one bolt isn't very convincing. Maybe if it showed him pouring some water from his canteen to the radiator, fiddling with some wires, and turning a bolt, I'd be more convinced.

But other than that, I have to say I'm looking forward to this game more than any other game coming up in the next 6 months.

I wonder if the feet on your avatar are animated. F.E.A.R. was actually the first FPS that really made the whole physical being of your ingame character feel like it was a living, breathing entity. And they did it simply by animating the feet, and adding some robustness to the feel of movement. When you knocked down the Armacham foes with your kicks, you could feel the momentum of your entire body billowing forward for the blow. For me, that was immersion right there...

This trailer really adds insult to injury for those of us that consider correct weapon functions a high priority for immersion.

Ugh, PC or 360, PC or 360. I tend to get more immersed in FPSes on the PC, but ... hardware. :/

This would be a instant buy if it was co-op.

I wonder if there are 'repair shops' for guns and vehicles where you can bring it for more robust repairs. Might make going back to base more meaningful.

I'll consider "healing critical wounds" immersive only if dude is screaming obscenities while reloacating joints or ripping out shrapnel. :D

I like where they're going with these concepts, I think it's going to be a great game!

Also remember not just put it on Steam Ubisoft, but to actually make it available WORLD WIDE.

It annoys me like nothing else when I'm fully ready to dish out the cash and buy a good game only to find out it's restricted to the US on Steam. Get your act together Ubisoft!

They forgot a critical first rule of immersion, the world is more than brown.

I'm really expecting an obilivion here,

the graphics/immersion will wow me for the first couple hours..
Then I would of seen it all...
