Morning Discussion
by Jeff "geedeck" Gondek, Aug 22, 2008 3:23am PDTYou look hungry this morning, so have about the latest Breakfast with the Shack? Today we have Nick looking at the trickle down effect of all these music games being played. Plus there's this tidbit from EA's Peter Moore not really being too psyched for RIAA-style downloader suing. And Team Fortress 2 for consoles? Could be as cool as the PC, if Sony and MS would just set it free.

Minecraft for Xbox 360 dev working on 'Adventure' update
- Your background is changed and claims your PRIVACY IS IN DANGER
- You have some sort of flashing icon in your tray
- An unending amount of 'problems' are showing up with a scanning utility constantly reminding you to pay some money to Degenerate someone
First off get these tools onto their system
- HijackThis
- Avenger
- Dial-A-Fix
Then open up HijackThis and remove anything suspicious. If you want to find out what to remove then you can either SM me or post it and some people here will help you out. Keep a close eye on the 04 section and the 021/022 section. Also the O23 services section.
Then after that is done go to Avenger and open it up. Type in the following on the top line or better yet just copy and paste it.
Files to Delete:
C:\Windows\System32\
C:\Windows\System32\
C:\Windows\System32\
C:\Windows\System32\
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\
Then browse to C:\Program Files\ and delete the randomly named folder in there. Usually it starts with the letter 'r' or 'q'
Go to %windir%\system32\ and click View and then Details. Click twice on Modified to show the most recently created files at the top. The suspect ones will be pretty obvious. Don't delete wpa.dbl or else you're be re-registering your XP or Vista. Check the date and you will see where to stop. The ones I've been seeing usually have an .exe and a .scr along with a .dll
Press F2 on each one and then CTRL-C and paste the name in Avenger on each line. As you can see also check the \drivers folder
Delete any unused lines and then check the two boxes at the bottom if not already. Click Execute and reboot. The resulting .txt file will tell of your great successes that you can sing about in the local bars.
If this nukes your MSI Installer or Windows Installer then follow these directions
Go to your Device Manager and click View and Show Hidden Devices. A section will pop up called Non Plug and Play Devices.
In that list you should see a randomly named driver in there. If it's not readily apparent then go to your %windir%\system32\drivers section and change the View to Details. Double-click on Modified and see if they are at the top.
If you see them then download Avenger http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avengernotes.htm and load that up to kill it. Make sure you check off the two checkboxes at the bottom. Reboot and the resulting .txt should show you any others. Repeat and that should be it.
If you still can't install then boot to Safe Mode and go to a Command Prompt and run msiexec /regserver
Reboot in normal mode to check

It threw in a rootkit along with a hidden Non Plug-N-Play driver to deny access to the Windows Installer. So basically no installing any .msi installers. It locks the CLSID registry key and denies access.
Fun times!

So last night we were at a friend's place celebrating his birthday. The party started out like any other but it didn't take too long until there was tequila shots. And oh boy was there ever tequila shots.
Fast forward a couple of hours and most of the people attending the party were so hammered they could barely stand, including yours truly.
I had been flirting with a guy throughout most of the night and one thing lead to another and we started making out. But I wasn't feeling it. So I go back to main action of the party and hang out with the crowd who were rocking out like crazy to Rock Band. I mean litterly. People were stage-diving from the sofa. Needless to say, it was awesome.
I was glad I wasn't going to the one cleaning up the next day. The house was starting to look like a mess. And I started feeling dizzy and needed a rest. So I go upstairs and I enter one of the rooms to pass out on the bed. I thought. In there room I bump into the birthday boy's little sister. We started talking and she was probably the funniest and most charming person I have ever met. It was amazing, it was like she was flirting when she talked although she wasn't. I don't know how she did it, it's hard to explain.
So after about half an hour of chatting about just about everything and nothing in the world, out of the blue (bare in mind I was reaaaally drunk), I kissed her! She was completely surprised by it as hesitant at first, but then more relax. And as if her charm wasn't enough, she was an amazing kisser! Just and things got nice we get interupted by some jackass who entered the room.
Shack, I really liked it. What should I do?

It really, really bugs me when people ask for advice/help on a forum (oh, like this one) and then people reply with help. But maybe part of your help includes a question that would enable you to help the poster better.
Only the original poster just, I dunno, fucks off. They don't come back and participate in their own thread.
Once again, this really bugs me, and I'm sorry =(

Last night I rearranged my room, meaning I had to move my desk. I shut down my computer, unplugged everything and set the computer on the ground. After I moved everything I needed to move I took my shop-vac and vacuumed up some dust in the corners, off my desk and then I looked in my computer case (which I keep open) and noticed that my cpu fan had some sizeable dust bunnies in there, as did the bottom of the case. So, not thinking it could do any harm, I shop-vac'd the dust out of the cpu fan and the case gently. I didn't do anything crazy, didn't push anything around didn't take out any wires I just vacuumed up a bit. I set my desk back up with the computer and everything, then when I hit the power button...nothing. Not a damn thing. Not a whir, not a beep...nada. So I double check the power strip is on, plug it into all the slots on the power strip and two different outlets in my room. I even switched power cables and tried switching the power supply on and off. I figure my power supply just up and died somehow. Did I trigger something with the shop-vac? Some sort of static electricity madness? Please advise before I go buy a new power supply.

Now, I'm just worried about what they meant by re-inventing the franchise for a younger vibe.

What dns management service do you guys use ?
I learned about Everydns.net here on the shack last year and i've been using it since then.
But now i would like to have my own nameservers names like NS1.DOOMEDHOSTING.COM , NS2.DOOMEDHOSTING.COM , etc - to make stuff look more professional.
I think Dnspark.com used to have this but i can't find it on their site anymore. Everydns also have zero references to it.
So any of you guys have this? How much you paying for it?

I am enrolled in a beginning photography course at my university. However, the building it was to be in got flooded during the summer, and all of the film equipment got destroyed. So, they have converted the class to digital, and told us all literally days before the start of the class.
We will be able to check out DSLRs. However, I've been stung by that before in classes, and at this point am planning to just buy a low end DSLR. I prefer Canon, but I will need a body and lens (or package if that's cheaper and will work). Again, I wasn't planning to purchase this yesterday, and I need it by next week or so, so this is kind of a mind fuck.

Nice little app.
It does not fucking recognize .MPG. WTF. Is there a way that I can download a codec for it? Is there a way that I can convert it and then convert it again.
FFS!
