Bionic Commando Rearmed PC Not Hitting Steam
by Chris Faylor, Aug 14, 2008 12:43pm PDTContrary to earlier reports, publisher Capcom has confirmed that the PC edition of GRIN's Bionic Commando Rearmed will not be sold via Valve's Steam platform.
"At the last minute, we've been unable to reach mutually agreeable terms with Valve on BCR, so they won't be carrying it," Capcom corporate officer Christian Svensson explained on the company's message boards.
"I won't get into the details but we do continue to have a good relationship with Valve and future Capcom titles we expect to be carried on Steam," he added.
Released yesterday on Xbox 360 and arriving today on PlayStation 3 and PC, the downloadable swinging platformer sells for $9.99 on consoles and $14.99 on PC, with the PC edition currently available via Direct2Drive and GamersGate.

As promised the results of my test with my D2D BCR version. Quest to test the D2D version and help clear up weather it has DRM and other concerns Shackers where having. Here is what I found out, would of posted it earlier but I went and saw Tropic Thunder last night as well had to finish debugging a section to complete my next build of my project (btw the movie was pimp, just awesome):
1. Does BCR have DRM and checks your specific hardware etc:
Answer = NO
Test: I installed it on three unique comps, my work comp, gaming pc home, and lap top. D2D uses a key based security and does not care what you install it on.
2. Can you install BCR multiple times:
Answer = Yes
Test: I installed it three times on different comps
3. Does BCR use the new Physx recently in Nvidia drivers and takes advantage of your hardware:
Answer = Yes
Test: Installed it on a none nvidia machine and Physx drivers where installed and appeared after install as well as got performance boost on nvidia machine when switching on and of hardware physx
Hope that helps you guys out and you won't be freaked out to try and use D2D, and no I have nothing to do with D2D I just want fellow gamers to by this game so Cap makes more game for the PC users.

Oh and which version should I get? PC or PS3? I'd rather have it on my PC and I want to support capcom through PC, but the PS3 version is cheaper and I have the demo for it already and am use to that.
Oh fuck it I'll get them both over a short period of time.
Buying from Capcom directly could be the next best thing to Steam.

I'm not blindly loyal to Steam. I use it because their system is actually CONVENIENT for me.

Breaks my heart not to be able to play this game, but I will not dive into another platform if I already have like 20 titles on steam.
'Just a theory, but perhaps Valve didn't want the extra layer of SecureRom and that's what Capcom couldn't agree with? BioShock's DRM caused some pretty bad customer relations for Valve."
Could make sense, since Capcom are saying future titles will continue to be sold on Steam.

Well now I have to do research to figure out which of these other sites are less DRM heavy. Gamersgate apparently uses Securom like Mass Effect, so I'd rather not go that route. D2D has limited activations, much LIKE securom.
What about the capcom store? Have they ever released a game this way before? Doesn't sound appealing.
FUCK.

... so I won't be buying it. Steam for PC releases is a must these days. We're talking about a $10.00-15.00 game here, I'm sure if you tried really hard you could've come up with a means of dealing with those just awfully unreasonable and militant Valve fellows. Fucking PopCap games manages it somehow.

I woulda bought it on Steam in a heartbeat, but now I dunno which one I should be using. I've heard plenty of bad things about D2D, and I've heard absolutely nothing about GamersGate.
What the hell, Capcom. :\

(Well, it was halted anyway because PSN won't take my credit card, despite typing everything exactly as it is on my statement. PSN wallet cards are only sold outside the US, correct?)
