Bionic Commando Remake Hits PC, Steam Thursday; Costs $5 More Than Console Versions

37
Update: Speaking with Shacknews, Capcom has explained that the higher price point for the PC edition of Bionic Commando Rearmed is not due to piracy, but lies "with different business terms/expectations in [PC] sector" and higher distribution costs.

"$14.99 represents an appropriate price for the platform and you should probably expect our PC pricing to always be slightly higher than the console equivalent in this space," noted Capcom business development and strategic planning VP Christian Svensson.

Original Story: Bionic Commando Rearmed, GRIN's enhanced remake of Capcom's classic swinging platformer, will hit PC on August 14, community manager Gearoid Reidy has confirmed on the game's blog.

Available through digital distribution platforms Steam and Direct2Drive, the PC version will sell for $14.99--a $5 premium over the $9.99 PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 releases. No reason was provided for the price hike, though publisher Capcom has previously complained about the effects of piracy on its PC releases.

The downloadable PlayStation 3 edition of Bionic Commando Rearmed arrives in the PlayStation Store next Thursday, the same day as the PC version's debut, while the downloadable Xbox 360 version will be available next Wednesday, August 13.

I'm not getting it 'cause they treat PC gamers as second grade customers, 5$ price hike just because of being released on PC. And then they complain of bad sales of their other crap games.. and they'll again complain of pirating this game despite all of the reasons for it selling lower than console counter-parts, which will have nothing to do with piracy but to much greater extent people getting it where it's cheaper and the fact it's just a remake of an old game..

I think its a mental reason to hike the price and am almost tempted not to get it on the PC and get it either on my 360 or ps3.

Only thing is the PC version will allow for graphical tweaks so I will end up getting it, careful Cap don't piss off your fans.

I really hope sales are huge so more game are made with this engine and from Caps old school 90's classics

This thread sounds vaguely like an excuse to not buy a game you probably weren't going to buy anyway. $5 crosses the line, *really*?

The fuck you say? I't worth far more than $15 my friend. I'd gladly pay $50.

I think people are going to see it, and either buy the console version, or just torrent it, because of the price difference, unless theyre people like you who have been waiting for this game and will gladly buy it 5 bucks more to support the game
Im just saying I see pc gamers using the price difference as an excuse to torrent it

Anyone who fucking torrents this epic piece of remake goodness can lick my nutsack. THEY are the reason PC gaming is dying, not Capcom and a measly $5.00 increase. Jesus fuck. If this port doesn't sell well I'm going to hunt every last one of you assholes down. I mean it.

if it turns out being pos and doesn't run on half of PCs out there, you remember this and go out to buy 2 more copies regardless and leave $5 tip on the counter while you're at it/donate to Capcom's bank account, whichever you'd like more..

short: nothing stops you from paying $50

I'd pay $50 because it's a damn good looking remake of a classic. I paid $49 for FFIVDS, I see no reason why Capcom should be asking for any less. However they do - they want a measly $15 from me. Instead of bitching I'm grateful.

Yeah... I was waiting for this game for a while now and I'm happy that it's being released soon. But charging more while mumbling some rubbish about piracy kind of rubs me the wrong way... I might reconsider buying it... 15$ is not too much (if this damn thing will cost 2x the price on Steam UK I am not going to buy it!!! never!!!) but it just kind of feels wrong that they want to charge PC folks more *without any reason*...

actually - after thinking about it, and capcom's previous ports of titles to the PC - I'm not going to buy anything until I play a demo...
