Grand Theft Auto 4 PC Announced, Due Nov. 18; Sports 'Newly Expanded Multiplayer'
by Chris Faylor, Aug 06, 2008 8:08am PDTThe long-rumored PC version of Rockstar's open-world crime life simulator Grand Theft Auto IV will hit North America on November 18 and in Europe on November 21, the developer announced today.
The PC edition is said to pack "newly expanded multiplayer just for the PC," with Rockstar remaining mum on the specifics. Released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this past April, the Rockstar North-developed title went on to sell over 6 million units in its first week at retailers and has since sold over 8.5 million units.
"We are very excited to be releasing the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV," said Rockstar founder Sam House. "The whole team is dedicated to bringing an amazing gaming experience to the PC. The game looks and plays beautifully on PC and we can't wait for people to play it."
Word of a relatively quick PC release fits with the company's previous work, as the past three GTA titles--Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City and San Andreas--all arrived on PC within 7-9 months of their console debut.

I gather this means it will be a dedicated inhouse project, and not some outsourced half-arse port?
Anyhow, I can't wait. I've played some random missions over at friend's, but I really want this in its full 2560x glory with mouse + kb. And for some reason, I want the retail box on my hands for this one. Don't know why. I love Steam and get my games from there almost exclusively these days, when ever it's possible, but I just need to have this box on my shelf.
Thumbs up for a CE =)

Finally I get a chance to do it as well.
Hopefully it runs well on my newly upgraded rig.
Seriously. Who was daft enough to believe that this game wouldn't be coming for PC?
Regardless, I'm excited to see a high resolution 60 fps version of this game. And the mods, oh the mods.

-release it on steam and make it support valve's system of joining a friends game
-dedicated servers to support more than 8-16 players or whatever the console's p2p limitation is at this moment (i have a gut feeling they'll just port it to windows live since this is the easiest thing for them to do)
-modding was quite do-able in past gta pc titles, let players make their own custom skins/models or whatever
