Ready or not, Electronic Arts today announced that Mythic Entertainment's newest MMORPG Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning will launch September 18.

The publisher also announced that a monthly subscription will cost $14.99 USD, with slight discounts available when signing up for 3- ($41.97 / $13.99 per month) or 6 month ($77.94 / $12.99 per month) periods.

"The countdown has officially begun. Mark your calendars! September 18th is the Day of Reckoning," said Mythic founder Mark Jacobs. He added, "For the last three years, the entire team at Mythic has poured their hearts into making Warhammer Online the next great MMORPG. We are so excited to open up this world and share it with the fans that will live in it, quest in it, go to war in it and make it come alive."

Mythic recently announced it had cut several cities and player classes from the game out of quality concerns.

So why doesn't this announcement come with a batch of shots of the end product?

Answer: cause most devs are retarded beyond belief when it comes to marketing their products

We keep hearing of this supposed lightning-engine of theirs, but why won't they ever show it?

People have been complaining that screenshots look unlit for a long time now, I'm starting to think that the engine is little more than myth.

oh shit you're right. I forgot they launched Beta 3 a little bit ago. Last I played was beta 2. I should login to see what Beta 3 is like.

Someone could possibly search @ google for "warhammer 3.2 beta lighting" and look at the first return. You may find some videos there. Though I had nothing to do with those.

Checked, watched. Looks a whole lot better in action but real lighting i don't see (for instance magic effects casting lights on the ground). Am i right or blind?

I dunno.. Maybe it's been so long since I've played WoW (need to fire back up the acct for WotLK) or something but I don't remember to many crazy lightning effects going on in game. Not real time at least. I know there was plenty of particle type effects and shader type effects but.. Anyhow if you ultimate goal is large scale RvR you've got to keep things under control somewhat, I remember how great it was in DAOC when they introduced settings that you could turn down spell effects to fight massive battles without as many framerate issues. Will have to see what improves over the next month.

Things are better in motion. Don't know why screenshots are the way they are. Hopefully more people can get into beta towards the end. Some of the features they have announced publicly and working on seem cool and could be a lot of fun.

Why oh why won't they release screenshots of that then? It's hard to see how well it actually looks from a Youtube-video.

      Form the latest producer's letter:
"Another exciting note is that our artists have been hard at work perfecting our lighting system, and you can see the fruits of their labor to its greatest extent right now! We've added additional lighting features this round and we know you'll agree that they really bring out the surroundings and add to the total immersion into the Warhammer world."

Cool. Somebody please explain m. retard producer that sending out batches of new screenshots to the press makes more sense than what he is doing now. Not everybody is in the mood to search for a possible engine upgrade and more proof that the game is awesome.

Yea, I know, it's pretty dumb that all of the official screenshots use old lighting engine... Maybe they will be replaced once the game engine will be more or less complete (there are still no customizable graphics settings in the latest 3.2 beta client).
