Sales of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3) led a 16.7% sales jump and massive growth of Konami's PlayStation 3 sales volume, the publisher revealed in its 2009 first quarter financial results.

Kojima Productions' stealth action shooter moved three million units since its June 12 debut, propelling Konami's PlayStation 3 business to 57.3% of its total sales in the quarter ending June 30. The figure shows a massive increase over the same reporting period last year, in which PlayStation 3 software accounted for just 1.3% of sales.

The publisher added that sales of Metal Gear Solid 4 are still "steadily increasing."

Konami reported $656.1M in net revenue for the quarter, showing a 16.7% increase over the same reporting period last year. Profits amounted to $108.6M, or a 65.6% year-over-year increase.

While I don't regret buying the game - as I've got numerous hours of gameplay from unlocking different things on subseqeunt playthroughs; I agree with you that is it really short.

For the average player once you removed the vast amount of lengthy cutscenese, there is only about 5-6 hours of acutal gameplay. Once you learn the caution points and the different zones the time dwindles even more.

It's hard to notice how short the game is on the first playthrough because even though the game is cut scene heavy, they are all very engaging and interesting to watch (at least once, if not a few more times). Once you play through it twice or a third time you realize how much the game is lacking.

IMO, if all the reviewers who gave this game a 10/10 were to review it again now, after the intial first playthrough's wow factor, I think it only get a low to mid 9. It definitely isn't a flawless game.

I have to agree. I was blown away by its controls, it had that useful and cool snake crawl but to bad you can't peek around a corner and shoot!

If I wanted to watch someones politically motivated anime I would have rented a movie not purchased a game.

A rental? Did you rush through the game or something?

Hell with MGO I'm surprised anyone can say it's just a rental - and then the downloadable things in the "extra" section, and all the replay value...

I'd pop the disc back in if I were you...or download a save file or something.
