Rage Screenshots Arrive

Nearly a year after the title's unveiling, id Software today released the first official screenshots from its post-apocalyptic open-world shooter Rage (PC, PS3, 360, Mac).

Slated to arrive "when it's fun and when it's done", the project is facing storage and royalty issues on Xbox 360, which could make that version look worse than others.

Those are really nice, and they show off the engine pretty well but they should have shown something else other than an indoor screenshot showing two indentical guys and another indoor screenshot showing two nearly identical mutants. A nice sweeping barren lanscape or a town panorama like we have in the trailer would have made for some really nice shots. Now we're stuck for maybe another six months with those two shots. :(

Those screenshots are really getting dangerously close to pre-rendered quality. I really have a hard time imagining how Doom4 could look better.. (at least in indoor scenes). What will be different? Twice the polycount?

You know... I can't help but almost directly compare, in my mind, Epic Games and id Software games. I know their rivalry days are pretty much over and all, but they're both still essentially shooter factories when it comes to their products, and I gotta say... id always makes more exciting and interesting things to me. Not that there's no place for well-designed ultra-brawny style, but id's always-convincing environments and way about dark moodiness are just so sexy.
