More Call of Duty and Guitar Hero Sequels in 2009

Activision today revealed that it is planning to release future iterations in the Guitar Hero and Call of Duty franchises during 2009.

According to Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith, the publisher's 2009 lineup will include "multiple new Guitar Hero SKUs [and] an all new Call of Duty [due to our] leapfrog studio strategy," along with the next Tony Hawk game.

The next batch of Guitar Hero and Call of Duty games are arriving this fall in the form of Guitar Hero World Tour and Call of Duty: World at War.

The "leapfrog studio strategy" refers to the company's practice of rotating development responsibilities. Series creator Infinity Ward has helmed Call of Duty 1, 2 and 4, while Treyarch has produced Call of Duty 3 and the upcoming Call of Duty: World at War.

All I really care about is not having to shoot someone a million times before killing them while playing online. That's why I loved COD4...

...I just can't stand playing Battlefield: Bad Company for that reason.

I seriously think Activision is going to single handly kill any excitement Guitar Hero will have.

Harmonix/MTV has shown that all you need to do is provide a great platform, update it (allowing existing materials to continue to work) and throw tons (even if they don't all stick) of DLC at the users to avoid flooding them with games and fake instruments.

Do we have any confirmation that COD5 is modern/slightly futuristic? I thought that was the current rumor but I could be wrong. Either way, can't wait to give it a try.
