Morning Discussion

It seems like Ghostbusters and Brutal Legends aren't quite adrift as it might have seemed yesterday, which is nice. And if you're a PC sports gamer, then consider EA gone but not forgotten. Plus, Spore is coming! Really!

I’m getting back into the Sims 2 big time. I recently picked up Free time expansion and the IKEA stuff pack.

I was mostly inspired by the recent show, Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog. In the Sims has has been the typical minor villain. The most “evil” thing he has done is make is hail 24/7. All the Sims run around outside going “owe” and holding their head. He’s been a fun character but he’s days are limited. A problem I'm having is Dr Horrible can't have a kid. I've extended his life a lot to fight off old age. Got him married and been trying several times a day for about 14 days (which is forever in Sims 2). No luck. I'm thinking about having Ms Horrible start on the paranormal career path to get a zombie machine in case Dr Horrible kicks the bucket.

Free time oddly enough makes creating a sweat shop really easy. I created a large warehouse with beds, toilets, showers right next to craft tables. I created a bunch of knowledge Sim workers with lots of energy, fairly shy, and low needs. The workers was up excited to go to work at their craft table. Churning out trinkets for hours on in. They are happy to read trade magazines, to talk about trade with other co-workers. Except for having time to bath, eat and poo, the Sims don't have any real want or desires.

Anyways, I've been developing this villain town. Every family is some sort of bad guy with a Sims twist. Lex Luthor runs the sweat shop. Dr Horrible has a typical mad scientist castle, running weather experiments and turning his victims into zombies. Edgar Allen Poe walled up his family and turned the room into a mini bar. I got Doctor Nick Riviera running test on subjects. I have Anti AlGore polluting his lot and community lots. I think I got most things covered except for pimping. Which bring me to something Rod Humble said on the GFW podcast. Apparently people have used the Open For Business to create brothels. How is this possible? I know there are mods but often mods tend to break the sim.

I also noticed the Sims seem to be attracted to anything new be default. I made this huge tower for the Fantastic Four. The first floor has just something for everyone. Especially the kitchen. The highest quality of everything. (yes I used the money cheat) Three floors up are the bed rooms. I noticed Johnny Storm was eating a lot in the middle of the night so I put a low quality mini fridge and microwave in his bedroom. Sure enough, they because the default items to use. In fact, a sim will often grab food from the basement fridge run upstairs 3 floors up to use Johnny's Microwave and then run 3 floors down to sit down and eat. THEN ignoring the dishwasher or trash compactor will go up 3 floors to wash they dishes in a bathroom sink. Massive time waste.

Can't wait for Apartments to come out. Hopefully I'll be able to populate the whole complex with 1970's sitcom shows. I already am planning on having Bob Newhart, Mary Tyler Moore, Laverne and Shirley, and Three's company all hanging out in the same building.

Best part of the Free Time expansion is the car restoration stuff. That was really cool. :D

I thought that was neat as well. I haven't checked, I wonder if you could make a business out of it?

I think the cars was pretty valuable when done, but they do take quite a while to make. :)

I like the game. Of course my wife loves it even more, but I admit that it can be addicting and has a good strategy component.

I had similar issues with Sims 2 on my old computer. It just got to big or corrupt. Communities wouldn't load. There was a tool to reset some things and that fixed it for me.

My one guy i got is a Alien vampire. He married rich women had kids with em then divorced em. Sadly i can't play em as i can't find my University expansion. I'm thinking of redoing em and getting the plant and just keep em young drinking that. Kinda a mad scientist.

Alien vampire? Thats an odd combo. I didn't try to make a plant zombie one time and that didn't work well.
