Prince of Persia Creator Reviving Karateka
by Chris Faylor, Jul 26, 2008 10:56am PDTWith the Prince of Persia series more popular than ever, creator Jordan Mechner is now planning to resurrect his first game, the martial arts-centric PC title Karateka.
"There actually is a plan to bring back Karateka," Mechner revealed during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, as reported by Gamasutra. "It's a project I'm going to be involved in. I can safely say it's not going to be in the way you expect."
The designer later confirmed that the project will indeed be a video game, but offered no details on platforms, development studio, or a possible release date.
Released in 1984, Karateka featured fluid animations similar to those that defined Prince of Persia, which first arrived in 1989. Prince of Persia was then brought into the modern era by Ubisoft Montreal and Mechner with 2003's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the success of which resulted in a number of sequels and a feature film.

I played this game when it was brand new on an IBM-compatible 286 XT with a CGA monitor. Which means I am really old. :(
