WoW: Lich King Beta Keys Fetch $1000 Price on eBay
by Aaron Linde, Jul 25, 2008 3:48pm PDTSerial codes granting access to Blizzard's recently launched World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (PC) beta are being sold on internet auction site eBay for exorbitant sums of money following the beta's launch late last week.
According to Eurogamer, the beta keys have sold as high as €652 ($1022) on internet auction site eBay's UK arm. Meanwhile, recently completed listings in North America range anywhere from $200 to $650, with one listing going for $735.
Originally distributed at Blizzard's BlizzCon 2007 and 2008 Worldwide Invitational, the keys were recently revealed to grant entry to the anticipated expansion's beta testing phase. The only other means of gaining access is by way of an opt-in sign-up page, from which participants are randomly selected.
Wrath of the Lich King marks the second expansion to the wildly popular fantasy MMO, and includes the title's first hero class, the Death Knight.
The expansion is set to make its full retail debut by the year's end.

Look at Nintendo wii's Sold out in the NYC area since launch, only way to get one is to watch the stores or eBay it for $350
Same thing with any sporting event tickets, like Superbowl $800 face value tickets, for 1 game.
Wotlk Beta, go to blizz con if your not in the area, you add up flying in, rent a car, hotel and $100 dollar admission fee.
People will pay for what they want, and always have.

I would like my own beta key, but there's no way in hell I'll pay what people are asking for now. Though I would be willing to pay a much smaller amount. Some of the stuff in the beta really is awesome...a friend bought a key and let me get on to start a Death Knight, and all I can say is that the intro and starting area for the Death Knights is really amazing and very different from anything else in the game. People will roll multiple Death Knights just to play through the starting area, I guarantee it!
