Bungie: Halo E3 Snub 'Not a Laughing Matter'

22
Bungie president Harold Ryan voiced disagreement with Microsoft over the publisher's decision to bump the Halo maker's latest project reveal out of E3, now slated to debut a future event.

"I certainly didn't agree with the decision to delay our news until sometime after E3," Ryan told Eurogamer. "Bungie is always concerned first and foremost with our fans. Whenever we are prevented from exceeding their positive expectations it is not a laughing matter."

Bungie teased a reveal of its next Halo project on its official website, with a countdown suggesting that more information would be made available during last week's E3 Media and Business Summit.

A letter from Ryan later appeared on the website the day before the scheduled revealing, claiming that "those plans were just changed by our publisher."

Microsoft's Xbox and Games for Windows VP Don Mattrick later told reporters that following the delay, Ryan "just laughed and he said, 'Boy, just a sign of growth inside the business, we agree'."

The executive added that the new Halo title would be unveiled sometime later this year.

I think the more important question this raises is whether or not either company was being truthful when they said that Bungie's decision to leave Microsoft was on mutually "friendly" terms. It seems to me that this and other small things that have occured suggest that the relationship between Microsoft and Bungie post-split or just prior to were and are not as rosy as the two companies would have us believe.

If you want to know a secret, pretty much everything that is an official statement by any company is 30-90% BS. See the thing is with business, and making games is a business, you want to say whatever you need to say to make the most money, and talking shit on the tech you bought or the company you work for or the game or whatever can get you in trouble and raise concerns over the success of current and future projects.

So when you ask, how is your relationship with company X, no one is going to say "oh terrible, I hate those fuckers, they screwed me out of X, Y , and Z" That is just not the way it works with business. So did they lie? I don't know, but everyone lies, pretty much constantly.

I disagree. That is not business. Business is paying for something and getting that something. It should not be a hoodwinking experience from the get go. I'm sorry to say, but very soon now we're going to have major problems due to this lack of ethical behaviour in business, in addition to the lack of moral guidelines that seems to plague the majority of company management.

Well I am not saying they are doing anything illigal.

And I don't know what you disagree with. You said the world *SHOULD*

I was not discussing how things should be, I was giving my opinion on the accuracy of statements released being taken at face value based on the facts I know. What? I mean the way it should be and the way it is are different subjects, so you can;t really disagree with me on how it should be, because I never gave my opinion on how it should be, just on how things are.
