Evening Faylure: E3 2008 Edition
by Chris Faylor, Jul 17, 2008 6:45pm PDTE3 2008 may be over, but that doesn't mean our coverage is. Your ever-loyal Shack Staff will be pecking away at their keyboards into the early morning, stopping only to observe the nerd holiday that is a midnight showing of The Dark Knight.
But just because we're slaving away doesn't mean you need to stay in that crowded, musty chatty any more. Here, have a fresh new one. The smell was getting to me.
Or was that Linde's socks?

WHERE THE HELL IS ARMORED CORE: FOR ANSWER???
I actually have the import now, and it really is as awesome as I suspected- truly enormous armed forts to take down- mecha-SotC.
I don't care if it's Sega or Ubisoft or even Agetec risen from the grave- just localize the damn thing- the story looks way better than the norm for AC.

I'm either getting old, or it is that I don't listen to the radio, but I've never heard of these crackers.

Some of Stanley Kubrick's personal letters have been published by his wife Christiane, and some excerpts are available online.
They are a very brief, but fascinating look into his personal and professional life.
Enjoy!

The last section was as follows.
Cops pull over a car that was changing lanes and they weren't wearing their seatbelt. !! OMG!
The previous section,
a learner driver was driving at 50km/h on a 100km/h freeway! DANGER!

"a lot of stuff blew up!"
O_o
The Dark Knight is a fantastic movie. All the parts (except perhaps Rachel) were excellently acted, but nothing compares to Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker. He is disturbed, disturbing, creepy, violent, and funny in a blacker-than-coal-in-the-deepest-cave kind of way. It doesn't come of as a performance as much as an enveloping of the actor by the Joker's psychotic, sociopathic, twisted character.
Maybe I'll comment more in the morning. Er, later in the morning, since it's 3:40am now. I'm going to bed.

The most interesting thing about this month? PS3 has now outsold x360 for this year. Go figure.
Figures from NPD so USA only, floored to nearest thousand

So, you're probably thinking, can THE DARK KNIGHT be nearly as good as its mind-blowing and riveting trailers? Not even close, I am very sorry to say. In one of the most disappointing films of the year, THE DARK KNIGHT is a pale shadow of its marvelous predecessor, BATMAN BEGINS, which I could watch over and over again.
While BATMAN BEGINS was consistently riveting, THE DARK KNIGHT is very much a mixed bag. Mixed with the flashes of absolute brilliance are long dead sections. This, the second of director Christopher Nolan's BATMANs, left me more often bored than entertained. It's a good thing that the long, slow stretches are periodically interrupted by some terrific moments, otherwise this is a BATMAN that could put you to sleep, as it almost did me a couple of times.
It goes on like this. He seems to be the one negative review on Rotten Tomatoes. A big pile of user comments on it heh. As far as I can tell... this guy... is an Internet Movie Critic. Doesn't belong to any newspaper or anything. Just posts reviews ... on USENET? What the fuck is he doing being linked on Rotten Tomatoes?

I was looking forward to going out to dinner with some old coworkers, bringing my girlfriend along since she has no friends (most of my coworkers are chatty women the type I think my girlfriend would get along with well).
Instead, now my girlfriend won't talk to me (again! yay! what else is new?) More importantly, I'm stuck at work when I should have left ten minutes ago. I was finishing up an email and ready to pack, when the manager comes over and asks if we're leaving soon (in other words, don't leave) that we'll have a weekly meeting after people at work finish their dinner. And I didn't order in because I thought I was leaving :(
I'm hungry and I'm frustrated.

There is a song called Projects by Tyree Colion. I liked it quite a lot, but i could not find the lyrics for it, so i took 5 minutes and wrote the lyrics down. I am unable to get all of the words, so any help is appreciated. The punctuation and stuff is not perfect, so bear with me; my english is fine, i just did not take the effort to edit it.
In reply. [ i only miss about 5-6 words/phrases marked with ....? ]
Will bump later if no one replies; off to bed now.

Siddhartha was absolutely incredible. It's probably my favorite book. Everyone should read it. I found reading it really helped put the stupid, trivial crap I stress about on a day to day basis into better perspective.
Brave New World was also amazing. Some of the parallels to our own society in 2008 are too close for comfort, and Huxley wrote this back in 1932, even before his student George Orwell wrote 1984.
The Fall was interesting but not as engaging as Siddhartha or Brave New World. I have a feeling that some of Camus' other work may be more interesting than The Fall.
I have just started reading Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis.
Have any other Shackers read these books, or have reading recommendations of their own?
