The NPD Group today released its monthly sales results for US video game software and hardware sales across June.

Kojima Productions' Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots lead the way on the software side with nearly a million total units sold, while the Nintendo DS and Wii continued to dominate hardware sales.

According to Nintendo, today's data shows that the overall US install base for the Wii is nearly 10.9 million units, making the Wii the "new console leader in the US" and reaffirming it status as the worldwide console leader.

Taking today's figures into account, the Xbox 360 has sold a total of 10.4 million units in the United States since launch. As of April 2008, the Wii had sold 24.5 million units worldwide, while the Xbox 360 had moved 19 million.

June's best-selling console games in the U.S. were:

  1. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Kojima Productions, PS3) - 774,600 (Roughly 1 million including bundles)
  2. Guitar Hero: On Tour (Vicarious Visions, NDS) - 422,300
  3. Ninja Gaiden II (Team Ninja, Xbox 360) - 372,700
  4. Wii Fit (Nintendo, Wii) - 372,700
  5. Wii Play (Nintendo, Wii) - 359,100
  6. Battlefield: Bad Company (EA DICE, Xbox 360) - 346,800
  7. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo, Wii) - 322,400
  8. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure (TT Games, Wii) - 294,500
  9. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure (TT Games, NDS) - 267,800
  10. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure (TT Games, PS2) - 260,300

Meanwhile, June hardware sales in the United States were as follows:

  1. Nintendo DS - 783,000 units
  2. Wii - 666,700 units
  3. PlayStation 3 - 405,500 units
  4. PSP - 337,4000 units
  5. Xbox 360 - 219,800 units
  6. PlayStation 2 - 188,800 units
"As expected, Metal Gear Solid 4 realized significant retail sales and drove PS3 hardware acquisition," noted NPD analyst Anita Frazier noted. "While the attached media report does not include units bundled with hardware, if included MGS4 sold-through nearly 1 million units."

Yeah if you go off of worldwide sales, the GameCube beat the Xbox, but in the US, the Xbox beat out the GameCube (both paled to the PS2)

But yeah for the Wii to dominate everyone, especially since this is sort of the "point of no return" (i.e., I doubt either of the others will come from behind) is pretty impressive.
