by Jeff "geedeck" Gondek, Jul 17, 2008 12:11am PDTSo how is E3 treating you? The breaking news is pretty much all out there, but we'll still have plenty more video and hands-on impressions for you. Why just in the past day we've spent time with Halo Wars,
Crysis Warhead,
Dawn of War 2,
Chrono Trigger DS,
Borderlands,
Champions Online,
Empire: Total War
and
Resident Evil 5
. Plus we have news regarding the new Duke Nukem trilogy for DS and PSP, BioShock PS3 along with the first announcement of Pikmin 3.

Finally got to playing it. It has been said before, the camera sucks (although there are like 6 different configurations, none makes me really happy without direct control), the controls need to get used to (although expected with this game) and the menu is annoying (although not Mass Effect menu annoying) Also the graphics could be a little bit nicer here and there and it's all a bit dark. But whatever.
With that out the way, OMGAWESOME! Didn't have that much fun with a demo for a looong long time. It's just pure fun. I mean, for those who haven't played it / didn't read about it, it's basically Diablo (oh gawd I usually hate it when this comparison comes up but I am a little hypcrite anyway and wth it IS a Diablo-game) with lasers and robots and swords and cyberspace, in a futuristic, and at the same time very mythical setting. It just works.
There are 5 classes, a skill tree, your inventory, runes, "magical" weapons & stuff, "spells" etc etc. Monsters (mostly some kind of robots it seems, look somewhat similar to Mass Effect, which is good) drop random loot, you get experience, and level up etc. But on top of it, it has this cyberspace interfaces where you solve puzzles which affect the real world (like in System Shock, only here the Cyberspace looks like a mythical place, where your hacking skills are reflected as actions within it. Take that ABXY Mass Effect)
Nice detail: You collect all stuff automatically if you are near it, and if your inventory is full, it drops the worst item and replaces it with the loot (can be switched off, too) I found a couple white stuff in the demo, some green items (probably the lowest form of "magical" items) and 2 items I could craft (by pressing A, don't know what I needed for that, but obviously I had it.)
Also I liked how I could shoot 2 pistols at different enemies each, while the rifle had a secondary function (grenade launcher), and how you could combo meele and range (hit with sword, throw enemy in the air, shoot to death for example)
I felt the demo was too short, but I saw in the menu, I have played straight for an hour. This looks definitely like a huge time sucker, especially since - did I mention it yet - it also has coop. (not in the demo though...)
if too long nuke, but since this a gamingsite I figured wtf
