No Bungie Game Reveal After All
by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 15, 2008 7:33pm PDTDeveloper Bungie's website has been updated with a letter from company president Harold Ryan, who states that contrary to earlier reports, Bungie's new project will not be revealed during E3.
"For the last several months, we've been building toward a reveal of something exciting that Bungie is working on," said Ryan. "We were looking forward to sharing that with our fan community during the week of E3. However, those plans were just changed by our publisher."
He added, "We realize that many of our fans are disappointed by this turn of events; members of the Bungie team share that disappointment."
Though Bungie became independent last year after several years under the Microsoft umbrella, the Seattle software giant retained publishing rights on Bungie's current and future projects.

I was reading the liveblogging from the great Shack here, PS3 fanboy, and also watching it (mostly listening too it, I was at work... lol) on ign.
Just as ps3 fanboy got started, they posted this: 11:30AM - OMG. We just saw the Bungie (Halo) guys walk by towards the front of the auditorium.

As neither of them actually announced anything new (and Sony certainly didnt show anything new that wasnt all CGI renders) MS probably thought it better to wait for a more opportune time to announce Halo: Lube
