$399 80GB PS3 Replaces 40GB in September

A $399 model of the PlayStation 3 equipped with an 80GB hard drive will replace the current $399 40GB model in September, SCEA CEO Jack Tretton announced today.

Currently, the 80GB PlayStation 3 is bundled with a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4 for $499.

The new 80GB model will have "the same functionality as the 40GB," Tretton claimed.

So I guess this means they'll try to sell off most of the 40 GB at its current price and then call them all back by the time the 80 GB hits. Rather than drop the price of the 40 GB a little like MS did just for the sake of saying, "Look, price drop!"

This is the worst console generation to buy a console. As soon as you do, they'll release an improved model. Like my 360. It was the top model when I bought it new, now it's stupid little 20gb HD means nothing and I have to pay half of what I paid for the entire Xbox to upgrade it to a MASSIVE 120gb.

($200 for the 120gb is twice as much as I spent on my 500gb HD for my computer)
