Fresh Left 4 Dead Footage Shows Updated Character Designs, Zombie Action

During a presentation at the Electronic Arts E3 press conference, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell revealed a redesign of the characters in his company's zombie shooter Left 4 Dead.

Following the character designs, a short gameplay trailer was also shown off. Video of both is now available below.

We'll be going hands-on with Left 4 Dead tomorrow, so stick around for updated impressions of the co-op shooter.

i didn't think the characters were too bad before, but they look great even now. for once there seems to be a void in the zombie shooter space, and this should fill that quite nicely.

I'm not sure what to make of this. I thought the past character designs were fine...I don't understand the need to change them. The new characters look fine though...except for Zoey. I prefer the older one substantially.

I'd gotten used to the old style but I love the fact that they applied what they learned from designing TF2's characters. I love the fact that each character has a distinct silhouette and stuff like that. Wish they'd do that to DoD:S or at least make a DoD 2 and apply it there.

Also, the smoke effects look really nice in that trailer. Damn.

They definitely look like characters you'd see in a zombie movie, I think they pulled that off really well.

The prior character designs looked a bit cartoonish, these are much more realistic.

Hate the new biker and old war vet dude. They look kind of bleh and generic now where before they looked unique and badass.

I kind of like the "battle hardened" look... the characters all seemed to have been in the shit for a while, and I thought they pulled that look off rather well, without looking stupid. But as long as the gameplay is intact, they can look like party clowns for all I care.
