I really didn't expect to be blown away by this, but I am. I bet it runs better than Crysis, too.

On another note, I kinda wish John Romero would make a comeback on Doom 4.
I hate them.

does anybody have the specs for the machine used?
That simply allows you a very high *diversity* of objects. While it does not change a thing about your maximum polycount you can now put in all kinds of various objects in your scenes for the same polygon budget but be sure that each one has a unique texture which changes everything.
Say, before you would put three identical cars in a scene with 1000 triangles each, you often had to use three identical cars (mesh+maps) to cut down on the textrue memory footprint. Now you can put in three totally different cars, although each still has to be around 1000 tris they can look totally different (both textures *and mesh*) and it won't have any impact on your framerate.
That *fundamentally* changes the way you can design your game. That's just amazing.
It's hard to tell how high is the polycount in those scenes but the visual richness is really impressive. And that's all thanks to megatexture, which is, according to JC, at the core essentially only a couple pages of code. Bummer.

It looked totally amazing last year so I was so shocked by the response. It's typical though because the average person does not understand what they are seeing.

Still, I like the visual design and it's definitely graphically impressive.

Yeah, it looks awesome, and this trailer makes very clear how the new engine allows for a greater diversity in the environments. The exteriors remind me more of the CGI landscapes in "Cars" than any game I've played.

Will you be getting this on the PC or console?

"Just from a technology standpoint it's important to recognise that what we're doing at 60hz, somebody could live with half the frame rate and double the visual fidelity in the game - make the game look completely different, but we're holding back on some of the things we could do from a visual standpoint because we feel like the frame rate is that important. So this is really only maybe half as good as a game on this engine could look if you were willing to drop the framerate? Damn.
