Fallout 3 Live Demonstration
by Nick Breckon, Jul 14, 2008 10:41am PDTBethesda demonstrated Fallout 3 during the Microsoft press conference at E3. Bethesda game director Todd Howard took us through a short gameplay session.
The demonstration began with the Vault character leaving Vault 101. He first ran into an iBot, broadcasting patriotic music.
He then showed how radios can be used to pick up transmissions from different factions, such as the Enclave.
Highlights:
- A perk for enemies to die in "ridiculously violent ways."
- Raider gets afraid and runs off after getting hit with the laser rifle. "Screw this!"
- You can ride an elevator to the top of the Washington Monument.
- Showing off Fat Man, mini-nuke launcher that just too out three guys with a few little mushroom clouds.

This shit is pretty cool, though.
Frustrating that he's using a controller, though. So clumsy. :D

Not that I'm trolling, I am going to be in the boat with everybody else buying this game. I actually would like to go into this game knowing very little about it except the basic stuff I've already read like the character creation process, the intro story and an idea of how it looks. I *don't* want to know every type of enemy, weapon or detail about it. I'd prefer it if the first time I see a super mutant I go "what the hell is that THING" rather than "oh that looks just like the super-mutant in the demo I watched". It's like a movie where the trailer shows snippets of the coolest parts that I would rather be surprised about.
Whatever, I know there is nothing I can do except ignore the coverage as much as I can. I'm just venting my annoyance with the hype system. I'm going to my cave now
