Shack PSA: Xbox 360 $50 Price Cut Made Official, Target Adds $25 Gift Card

5
Target today confirmed the long-rumored price cut of $50 for the Xbox 360 Pro bundle by way of a promotional press release.

The cut lowers the price of the 20GB Xbox 360, coupled with a wireless controller, to $299.99. The company is offering a $25 gift card on top of the cut for an in-store promotion.

There is no word yet on whether or not the sale is indicative of a forthcoming 60GB Xbox 360 console. Stay tuned for news out of Microsoft's E3 press conference, scheduled for 10:30 AM PST this coming Monday.

Down 50 bucks? Cool. With a $25 gift card, even better. Kinda makes the arcade pointless now though.

Hopefully it'll die off and developers will be able to do more with the hard drive soon.

Yup. The question is if the 20gb pro is going to replace the arcade model or is it a firesale on the 20gb models since a 60gb is on the way?

I don't know what's wrong with you idiots who ask for the Arcade unit to be removed completely. What needs to happen is that unit needs to get priced more aggressively, as in sub-200-dollars aggressively. The moment that this generation of games is under 200 dollars will be the moment that it begins to become mainstream, with all the goodness and gaming and proliferating products that entails. The Arcade, without a hard disk, is the one most easily within reach of that price-point. You could argue that the Wii could make it sooner, but I don't see Nintendo wanting to price it that low while it's selling the way it is. If the 360 reaches that price and sells like gangbusters (and it will, if it does) then Nintendo would have incentive for it, but not before.

The lack of the hard drive is holding the 360 back, period. Ask any developer. Look at the xbox live titles that have to be gimped to fit on a memory card.

A cheaper product will always sell better, but 360 took a big step back from the original xbox by ditching the drive.

Okay, I'll ask Rockstar how the lack of the hard disk held back the 360 version--with its higher resolution, faster framerate, and load times within 1-2 seconds of the PS3.
