This Week's XBLA Titles: Schizoid, Golf: Tee It Up!
by Aaron Linde, Jul 07, 2008 10:12am PDTTorpex Games' cooperative shooter Schizoid and Housemarque's Golf: Tee It Up! are coming to the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade downloadable gaming platform this week, Microsoft announced today.
Described by Torpex as "the most co-op game ever," Schizoid features two-player online and offline cooperative play. Designated as either blue or red, participants can absorb bullets and destroy otherwise invulnerable enemies of the same hue as they work through over 120 levels.
Golf: Tee It Up! offers a full 18-hole golf tournament playable either alone or via local and Xbox Live multiplayer. The title includes a variety of modes, character customization, and Focus, a feature which allows players to control the ball's spin in flight.
Both Schizoid and Golf: Tee It Up! are priced at 800 Microsoft Points ($10). As per the traditional XBLA release schedule, the games will be available on the Xbox Live Marketplace this Wednesday, July 9.

I don't understand why the courses and fidelity in those games look like something from a ps2 era golf title with a bump in output resolution for the current gen.

Hot Shots PS3 is really blurry and aliased, much worse in motion than screenshots, but if you check the web there are some really ugly shots too.
Tiger Woods kinda has the same problem. Everything looks like shit, don't know if it's the lighting or bloom or texture work or what, but it seems like they devote 99% of their visual budget to upgrade his character model and animations and the rest carries over from previous years.
I have no idea why golf games still look like shit. It's not like they have to pump 60 fps during heavy action like shooters and racing games, so why don't they look more like Crysis? or Far Cry 2? or better than those? I know today's consoles aren't that powerful, but when you play one of these golf games you'll probably cry at the poor visual quality and performance. It's just fucking sad.
They don't have to be clean and stylized Mario Golf style like this Tee It Up game, but something has gotta give.
