RTS-FPS Hybrid Raven Squad Coming to PC, 360

SouthPeak Games has announced Raven Squad: Operation Hidden Dagger, a "unique blending of real-time strategy and first-person shooter genres" for PC and Xbox 360.

Set in the near future, Raven Squad puts players in control of eight mercenaries across two groups. Each is said to "possess distinctive skills and weaponry," with players able to switch between RTS and FPS gameplay at will.

"Only by mastering both of these modes of play, and becoming adept at switching between the two, will players make it out of the jungle alive," SouthPeak teased.

Due out this fall, the game is helmed by Hungarian developer Atomic Motion and published by Evolved Games, with SouthPeak acting as the title's distributor.

I like the idea of these games, but they're never very good. It's really hard to make a really good FPS or a really good RTS. But then you combine them and you have to make two big genres. My biggest beef with Mass Effect was that it was a solid rpg, but pretty poor action game.

Pick a genre, do it right, and if you can pull in a few pieces from other genres.

Good idea, too bad it looks awe full. I don't care about how bad a game looks on my screen (because I always lower the graphics to the bare minimum anyway), however if a company can't make proper graphics that often tells a lot about how the game will be in general. Then again, there are plenty of examples of great looking games which have bad game play, physics, netcode or whatever.

Look at that hud. It takes up about a tenth of your screen. Even Wolfenstein 3d's hud didn't take up that much intrusive space. If that isn't changed asap I can guarantee that this game will not fly.
