by Chris Faylor, Jul 02, 2008 9:20am PDTUbisoft and Mac developer TransGaming have partnered to release Ubisoft-published games on Mac, the two companies have announced.
Initial offerings will include ports of Ubisoft's pet simulators Catz and Dogz, along with Telltale's CSI-themed adventure effort Hard Evidence. Other titles were not disclosed, though some Ubisoft PC games due out this fall would hit Mac simultaneously.
Ubisoft PC titles due this fall include the open-world shooter Far Cry 2 and the air combat effort Tom Clancy's HAWX.
Specializing in PC-to-Mac ports through its Cider technology, TransGaming works with multiple developers. Recent and upcoming Mac efforts handled by the company include CCP's space MMO EVE Online and EA Maxis' evolution simulator Spore.

It has two products: Cedega for Linux and its derivative Cider, for the Mac. They both derive from Wine, an open source and free of charge piece of software.
Although neither Wine, Cedega nor Cider are emulators, they provide a software compatibility layer that enables software designed for Windows to run on platforms it doesn't support natively. Regrettably, its major downside is that those games that run on top of it will suffer from rather large performance losses. It was years since I used any of their products though, so hopefully they have improved upon this - although it'll have a hard time matching anything that runs natively.
lol @ Windows ports to Mac anyone?
