Cops Say GTA Inspired Teen Crime Spree

A group of six teens who went on a late-night crime spree in Garden City, NY are now said to have been inspired by Grand Theft Auto.

Armed with baseball bats and crowbars, the kids collectively robbed a man of cash, stole cigarettes from a female driver, then "hit a passing van with a bat," according to Newsday. At one point the teens walked down a road, blocking traffic before harassing motorists.

"It was determined that they were emulating the character in that Grand Theft Auto game, going on a crime spree," said Nassau county police spokesman Det. Sgt. Anthony Repalone. "We got certain admissions."

All of the delinquents are set to be arraigned today at the First District Court of Hempstead.

Read: June 23rd, The New York State Assembly unanimously passed a video game bill... A11717 was proposed by Assemblyman Joseph Lentol, a Brooklyn Democrat. If signed into law it would require new console systems to be equipped with parental controls, would create a 16-member governmental advisory council and would mandate that ESRB ratings be displayed on game packaging. A similar measure is now under consideration in the State Senate.

Read: June 28th, a group of dead-beats go on a GTA rampage.

I wonder how the Senate will handle the measure?? Looks like a predictable equation.

I call bullshit. First of all, when the hell do you get a crowbar in GTA? HL yes, but ot GTA. Second, at no time have I ever been able to steal a pack of cigarettes from anyone in that game. Thirdly, and most important, these cops are obviously douche bags, because everyone knows once you start attacking cars and mugging people in GTA the cops start shooting right away and these pigs did not.

Two things:

1) The fact that the cops state that that the teens admit to emulating GTA4 doesn't mean anything. It's not like the cops are going to go easy on the teens because they were "inspired" or something, and they're going to be prosecuted like normal.

2) If the teens are inspired by a video game then maybe it's a good thing that we can root them out early and place them in jail before they become a bigger problem...
