Sacred 2 Coming to PlayStation 3 This Fall

German developer Ascaron Entertainment today announced the development of a PlayStation 3 edition of its upcoming multiplayer-oriented RPG Sacred 2: Fallen Angel. Screenshots of the new version were also provided.

Sacred 2's PS3 incarnation joins the previously announced PC and Xbox 360 versions of the title. In addition to online multiplayer modes via Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, Sacred 2 also features shared-screen cooperative play for two players on the same console.

Following the announcement of a delay late last year, all versions of Sacred 2: Fallen Angel are expected in stores this fall.

Sacred 1 was disappointing because with just a little more work, it could have been an excellent game. It had some very cool stuff in it and I did spend hours exploring the world, but the leveling system was terrible (you find skills as drops from monsters, so you couldn't plan a character at all or shoot for using particular skills) but ultimately it just wasn't good enough to hold my attention.

I'm hoping they learned some things from the first game and this new one is considerably better.

I really enjoyed the original Sacred (never managed to get my hands on the expansion pack) for a number of reasons. It had cool-looking gear (unlike Diablo), a terrifyingly large game world with completely new stuff every time you went off in a random direction, and overall some pretty cool gameplay (combining items, I think?). However, like has been said, it had some really weird bugs/idiosyncracies. Ascaron cleaned a lot of them up for Sacred Gold, but it kinda killed the game on launch.

Still, I loved getting to the first really, really big city and being like "WHOOAAAAA". It was really well-done!

Isn't Sacred 2 a top-down Diablo sort of game? All of these screenshots make it seem like a sidescroller.
